Yes I heard about John deer, there’s a great documentary on YouTube by VICE in which they talk about that and the “right to repair act” and how they get around it. Real greasy stuff
Let us know what is in the box when you receive it!Package shipped, got a tracking number. So you defenitly can buy the tool without being a dealer. It’s been said many times in this thread that updates aren’t available to the joes and only to the pros.
I ordered the unit from pantano power equipment if anyone cares.
Yes indeed. That particular dealer that I took it to is a crook, but I thought I'd give him one more chance to redeem himself. This last visit just put the icing on the cake for me. NO MORE! Gotta admire the Amish people. No wonder they never cuss. They don't have to deal with all this "new-fangled" crap.Wow, watching the videos you should literally have it back in ten minutes. If they are not able to keep their computer running then how do they keep a proper business??
Red flag!
It unfortunately will not work without the software. If you can get an installer of an old copy of the SW you can likely do what spike60 says.Ok got it today a few hours ago. Here are the pics, price was 134$USD from pantano power equipment.
Unit absolutely appears to be new, everything is sealed. No software however as in no disc. The sheet points to the dealer access portal, and as we discussed you gotta be a dealer to log in. Reading spike60’s post here in this thread

He says that
“Without the software, the diagnostic tool can still be used for some basic maintenance tasks. I've had 2 or 3 saws that were acting funny. 1 or 2 might have had a failure code, but I don't remember for sure. Hitting "reset factory fuel settings" corrected the problems and the saws have been fine. There is also a "master reset" that I've never used.”
I should be able to plug this in and go, however without a driver or application to run the device, I highly doubt windows will install it... gonna try anyways.
Just so we are clear I ordered this knowing this could possibly happen, just want to explore the possibility that end users can at least check out their own saws.
Just resurrecting this old thread.Yes that would be great, people have sent me service manuals maybe I’ll get lucky.
Yea I plugged it in and it installs as a USB serial converter. Pretty basic 1980’s tech reading ones and zeroes from the saw ...
The original unit I bought was sent back to husky corporate. They contacted me and wanted it back.. long story.Just resurrecting this old thread.
@Brent Nowell did you manage to get your CST working? Did you find the installer program?
You can only do a few things,How often does the newer saw need to be adjusted with the tool?
Abso friggen lutelyA reminder of the joys of a normal carby.
I’m not too sure how busy your dealers are, but mine has a 3 week wait time, it’s just way too long to wait for error codes / a diagnosis. I get that it’s useful on a car and the countless electronics (which you can just buy a reader for from your local car parts shop which works on multiple cars no less), for a chainsaw I just see it as totally unnecessary. They are so simple and so few parts to go wrong, it’s almost like we’re going backwards in progress. Something works flawlessly, so we stuff it with electronics and need a pc and dealer to tell us what’s wrong, constant updating, passwords and firewalls. It’s honesty just plain ludicrously. You can only do a few things,
-master reset
-fuel setting reset
-owner name
-add a service history report
-TPS, fuel solenoid, and air temp test
There are no settings that you can actually adjust. If you want to have the saw relearn it’s fuel settings to try and diagnose an issue you can reset the fuel setting to defaults for L and H

It is however nice to see error codes to help with diagnosis before you start taking things apart. I do agree with afleetcommand on this, it’s a tool to help with diagnosing, but not a replacement for mechanical diagnosing.
I see your point. But husky isn’t going to change lol so we might as well get with the program.I’m not too sure how busy your dealers are, but mine has a 3 week wait time, it’s just way too long to wait for error codes / a diagnosis.
