Well, it is a good bit taller than my 621, my opinion is still the same.

I am thinking 66E or 70E, with the new pics. Look at the sockets where the top handle is attached to the rubber mounts. They are large. On the 52E they sockets are quite small. I couldn't see the 66E on the clutch side, but I am guessing the two saws are similar. Once you have a few more measurements, we will all know for sure!

You are right, as far as I know - that is one of the sure signs that it is a 70-series saw, + the distinctive look of the starter side, above the air inlet.......:greenchainsaw:

I also believe that none of the 49cc saws are taller than the 621.....

Mystery Solved???

I went through my Jonsered spares and found what I think is gunnarfan's saw. I have two of these but one has a bigger bore and a single ring piston. The other has a smaller bore but is otherwise identical. Those that have said it's a 70 are right. The smaller would be the 66......Bob

hoping its a 70 but who knows

the mystery continues with more clues.. i'm still going to work some metric magic and do some measuring when i clean up mine this weekend.. and maybe get some daylight pics.. oh wow. anyways. was just at an older guys shop and he had a similar saw.. a little newer than mine but seemed to be the same serial series.. 15...... if bob or anyone is finding similar info out then let me know.. i think we are on to something?! maybe some strange transition period stuff eh??

I still say 60 or 621 as we had some 621s here in VT that were blacktops
(I been helping the local Jred dealer with overflow work) he seemed to recall the black top 621s..I even have a lower end here with the black handle that someone spray painted silver to match a silver top....crappy paint job too

We could both be wrong though

I'll measure it up naxt trip and we'll see gunnar

The 62 had black handlebars, the 621 silver/gray ones typically, but there could be other variants - anyway, the handlebar could have been changed out, so it isn't conclusive evidence anyway.

The saw in qustion is definately not a 62 or 621, just too many differences - and the 60 and 601 look totally different.........

the one in the old guys shop.. he says definetely not a 70 and with the trailers of parts.. i'd say he knows something... will bring mine over thursday and play size em up... if i survive the storm of the century about to happen.

was i right in thinking i saw a plastic flywheel or fan when looking into his.. with all the exhaust i huffed who knows.. brain could have gotten funny.

saw a very efficient small scale machine shop.. and that was cool enough.

Finally opened it up

I don't have anything about that i can say for sure measures mm to check the bar pattern.. however.. I think the following pics will show for sure what this is. Took off the muffler... and peeked through there. Looked around the clutch... Cleaned the thing for real.. hmm maybe why the oiler has been putting out less than it should...

As a bonus for anyone that wants to see 30 pound pug with a red hat on.. well I included that too.

pssst hint.. sawtroll was right.. ding ding ding.. winner.

Here's some pictures of what it should look like together and in the company of friends.....Bob

Hmmmm, second from left - is that an 80, with a 62/621 filter cover...

.....and on the 70, the clutch cover looks like it is from a 62/621 - I could be wrong though.....
