Been there done that---the fumes keep going down thru the tunnels--however, I cannot resist the temptation to then throw a match to it--seeing the little __ __ fry does extreme good to my psyche, unfortunatley the fire probably starts sucking the fumes right back up to the flame out of harms way for the ants. Each mound has its own scent and they will fight any intruders so it is also fun to take a big shovel full of one mound and throw it on another mound and stand back and watch the war!

LOL I never thought to do that. I'm sure it would be similar with any type of ant. Something to try this summer.

Oooooooooh! Now, that is a really good idea! The only question is........How do I move some of our big red "bull ants" from one nest to another without the little buggers walking up the shovel handle and getting me? These ants are well over an inch long, have powerfull pincers at one end and a real sting in their tail. They have a fatal allergey to petrol though.
Dennis.
