I just had an idea the other day while thinking about the hurricanes down in FL.

I guess that this would mostly apply to us northerners. My idea was this: Let's say you have a whole bunch of clients with homes in the south in areas like FL, NC, GA, etc. In the winter, you take maybe a month or a couple of weeks and go down and work at those houses. It sure would be a nice break from the freezing cold temps up here, and you get paid for it. The key thing though would be to line up enough work on the way down so that you aren't going hundreds of miles between jobs.

See problem with that, is outside of sheltered and affluent Westchester County there are not tons of people with "winter homes" down south.

And if you did have enough clients with such means, you wouldn't need to have to travel south to work, now would you?

Mike, I am not saying to travel south for the purpose of having work to do. I am saying to travel south in order to have work, and have that work be in a warmer location. Trying to walk through the snow to get to the trees, working in the freezing cold... Not the greatest conditions to work under.

I understand what you are saying Matt. But if you have a large enough clientele of rich folks with second homes, Then you wouldn't have to work in the winter, just vacation with them.:D

That doesn't make sense. Do you charge more for some people? If your busy in the summer in the North it doesn't mean you've gotten rich. Or am I missing something?

I don't think I charge more for some people as a general practice, but would certainly charge less for those less able to afford my services. Some people you just quote them something sky-high and pray they say no.

More affluent areas would obviously have a higher prevailing rate. Pricing is often dictated by what the market will bear.
