I'm running a half page add in the gold clipper here next month. There's always a handfull of other tree guys in there and they all say the same thing " will meet or beat any legitimate estimate". I know a couple of these outfits and some do really crap work. Holes all over the yard, murphin trees across driveways, even employing illeagals.. So I wanted to say something in my add like " will match any competitors price if they can match our standards of quality" or something like that.. Didn't really want to come off like I'm dogging my competition but I somehow want to convey the idea across to people that you get what you pay for. And I only got a couple lines to do it in lol.. Any ideas?

Maybe push the professional aspect of what you do and mention your rates simply as being reasonable. If your not going to win the price game, don't play it. Play your best card.

I ran into that problem when i was putting my radio ad together. I couldnt say on the radio that i wasnt just another idiot with a chainsaw. I tried to emphisize that i could not only remove thrir tree but could take care of it too. Fertilization,bracing and cabling, lightening protection, thats thr only way i can seperate myself from the hacks around here. That and most of them cant afford a professional looking ad. It seems to have worked for me.

I have an idea: wrap one end of a peice of rope to a rafter while standing on a chair, wrap the other around neck, jump off chair.

I noticed these " bid beaters" usually want to see the bid they are trying to beat so I was thinking that if you wrote " confidential" on your bid that might help but I am leaning towards the rope thing.

Ain't that some crafty #### though? Self proclaimed bid beaters. No respect for nothing or nobody.

Not usually posting here but bored so I will throw in.

I use: "We provide professional service at a fair price."

When they ask me if I beat or match bids I say no. And proceed to tell them I bid a fair profitable price for what I need to do for the quality you are requesting.

If they are not concerned about dents in the lawn etc. That is factored into the bid. Each job is different.

A nice presentation and quality work will distance you from the "we are only worried about price crowd" and provide you with a cache of clientele who are looking for your expertise not only in the removal of there trees sans damage to their property but also the care of those trees they would like to keep. Sharpening up your bidding skills wont hurt either!

A nice presentation and quality work will distance you from the "we are only worried about price crowd" and provide you with a cache of clientele who are looking for your expertise not only in the removal of there trees sans damage to their property but also the care of those trees they would like to keep. Sharpening up your bidding skills wont hurt either!

I agree and good point. my bidding skills could use a little honing..

The thing that sucks now is most people care more about cost than quality and the hacks will do a 1k job for $450 and who's gonna beat that besides another hack.
