Not sure of over all condition. I know it runs and the bucket works. Will require testing. Its a Versalift 50 with 55' working height. Yeah I know placement is not great for tree work but what would be too good a deal to pass up and make buying it worth wild. I am probably looking at under 5k

Personally, no I wouldn't. Not enough reach.

Plus remember, I know times are good now with the storm work still going on but believe me brother, there is always the lull after the storm.

If you are going to invest in equipment, at least invest in something that is worthwhile and is adequate for the work you are doing.

Well I really dont have a huge interest in a bucket only because of the price. I got in to this because I love climbing. Being part time even with the storm work I really can justify the money on a good bucket with proper set up and reach. I would love a 60+ rear mount that would get over powerlines nicely but not practical for me. The only reason I was even thinking about it is the thing will prolly go for under 3k. I was kind of looking at it as nothing more then a $3000 dollar ladder. A lot easier to do 3 or 4, 70+ footers in a day when your getting a ride the first fifty feet. Even my old fat ass could handle them climbs.

For what you do, SOM, I think that would be about perfect, assuming you're right about the cost. Though that won't keep me from laughing my ass off if I ever saw you bombing down the road in that old hunk of ####. lol Either way, get that boom checked out before you buy. #### gets real expensive, real quick with booms. Mine was in good shape, but by the time all the little stuff got fixed I had a $7500 bill to pay. If you end up sinking the same amount of dough into that rig you'll have over 10 G's in it with the purchase price, and that ain't a 10 G truck even with a safe boom.

The truck is really up for auction by the city here

I think you're making my hangover worse.

And actually you could do a ton of treework with that old truck... if you don't mind looking like a gay hacker, that is. I mean who even cares if ya hit the thing! I think I ran that same boom down in FL, only that truck had a forestry body.

I learned that trucks like them are open season just don't take out the windshield , nothing worse then bugs in your teeth after a long day of hackassery, although I feel that boom would leave you with the same feeling your first girlfriend had when she saw your winky "man that little thing ain't gonna reach the spot"

Lol. I see 40' drop hitches slamming into the grill/cab guard.. them utility boxes look like they'd be a blast to smash up too..

old yellow...

...does it fit your situation?.... can you put it to good use and make some real $ in your market?....if so you could make some fast money and get rid of it before its completely shot.... id go thru every square inch of it first.....

it would not work for me though.... i would never consider buying a bucket without a chip box on it... id save the $ for something better.... something is always going to be busting on an old truck like that... it'll probably nickle and dime you to death and you'll spend more time fixing the ####### thing then using it...

Versalift is a good boom, low maintance. If you can get it under 5 I would get it. A few years back I bought a 40' versalift on a 89 f450 and I gave 5 for that. I have made a lot of money with that little boom. A couple good jobs will pay for it, I dont think you would be sorry.View attachment 228399

If you have the extra cash lying around it would be a nice thing to have, especially for thinning out tips instead of taking tons of time limb walking and double crotching. Due to access issues it wouldn't work for you on every job but it could be a gem on many. Way less expensive than buying a big forestry package. Plus you will probably be able to sell it for near what you bought it for.

I'd love to have that relic. So long as it doesn't turn into a bottomless money pit, it would quickly pay for its self. There are jobs where that truck would shine. I'm not no boom baby, but if you have access any boom is twice as fast as climbing.
I'd dump that heavy ass utility bed.
If you do commercial work at all you can really slam trees in parking lots, and along roads.
All that is assuming it's not going to end up costing more money then it makes. Buying used is always a crap shoot. Is there maintenance records on it? I wouldn't be suprised if it went for top dollar at an auction if its in good shape.

Bucket truck

Hey Stihlo, I got a deal a year ago on an '96 FL80 Freightliner former Tronto Hydro bucket truck with a rear mount 42' Altec. I got it for 7500.00 Got it inspected and safetied. Works great. I have a 10 ft dump trailer with elevated sides I use for chips. This way when the chip trailer is full, the truck is still able to be used to continue the take down work while chips are being disposed of. It doesn't have a lot of reach, but I love the old girl!

we have a lot of big cypress row hedges in aus, every time I go to do one I hire an EWP and wish I owned a bucket truck. The rest of my work wouldn't have much benefit for it, but if I had one I'd be out selling hedge work on apartments etc.
