if your gaffer don't no a euc from an oak then suggest that you take on some of the quotation side of the job, that way you can automatically spec the job ime, most punters will listen to and expect an expert opinion , there may even be a pay rise init at least it will provide good tree advise to the customer and further down the line should you wish to produce some of your own company business cards, with only your own contact details on, a readilly availble store of jobs for you should you start up on your own
or stick both fingers up and prove him wrong, when he grovel's to you to buy him out in the future,,, before he goes bust !!!!

Iain, i did a quote for him on a small job but didn't give the customer the quote as its not my position, later found out he under quoted my quote by 1/3, there goes his profit. I don't know how he makes money! Well he probably doesn't...
He under quotes a lot, we end up getting jobs that other experienced company's know are a hassle and therefore, price accordingly, like trees with spikes, or palms.

Good luck with future endeavors. This sounds like #2 boss in Ottawa-he spiked everything insisting it was not harmful to the trees. Maybe so I responded but someone's specimen tree looks like h*ll after you have climbed it by poking dozens of little holes into the bark. Hard working man but just plain ignorant in more ways than one. I too moved on, even though the pay was better than most.
