I'm getting a new saw. Any suggestions?

Quite right Ben! I meant RM2 as the junk. I keep a few loops of RM on the truck for just the right occasions.

The Stihl chain cutters (as used on RM and RS) recede at a shallower rate than the Oregon the roller guides are designed for. I ended up dropping the front of the guide a little and raising the back by sticking a zip-tie around the top of the back guide rail slots.

The depth guide gauges work fine "out of the box" on Stihl chain. They probably give slightly more conservative results than with Oregon chain. I've never checked that aspect since I really like the results I get and don't care what the absolute measurement is.

Rich, i agree that the jusy is still out on the 575. However it is already starting out with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Its basicly the same HP and weighs 1.5 lbs more. This means its almost up to the weight of a 066. As for the 036..I concur. That saw is a roach..even with a muffler mod.

IMO if stihl comes to the table with saws to replace the 440 and 460 that are lighter than the husky's and make the same power Husky's goose may be cooked.

I agree wholeheartedly, however at least Husky is trying! These next few years will be like auto's of the early '80's. I am hoping that Stihl will put out 361 style versions of the 361. That kind of competition is good!;)

chain

We got all our 036/360s with 3/8 chain. Yeah the muffler needs opening up and the carb checked for internal and external adjustments. Pretty strong when everything is right.

But then again, I know an 029S that is looking to go to 3/8 chain after some mild mods. Ya just never know...

well i only owned one 036 .. to me it was da saw... i still think of it as an saw with power to cut pretty big stuff and very smooth action.. the oiler needed to be wide open on it tho..
i also think the 026 was a good choice..
dan sent me back mine with the stock appearance but significant gains..
it can be modified to really cut with surprising power ..but stock it aint no
slow saw,, by any stock saw measure.. plus just over 10 lbs..jmo
