was checking my stacks today and saw that ive gone through 15 face cord. a "normal" winter is about 17-18. its been cold with a lot of wind so im not too surprised. im just glad that I still have 8 cord in the cellar and almost 30 outside.

It's been a odd winter..I've got friends in Toledo that have commented on how rough the seasons been so far and I just look at them puzzled. A couple hours south in Cincinnati we've had a very mild almost snowless winter and I've used maybe 50% less wood than last year this time.

I could run out here in California, maybe. Not the same climate as you guys, but I am thinking about cutting some trees downed last year so I can start to dry the wood in a sunny spot.

Here in Vermont, I usually burn 4 cords a year. Looks like I'll have to dip into next year's supply as I'll probably burn 5. I put up 8, so I'm usually a full year ahead. I don't usually put up more than 8 because I also use my shed for winter storage of my generator, splitter, kids bikes, etc. Maybe I'll add a small roof on the shed and put the bikes underneath, make more room for wood.

Think our winter has just gotten going here, the past couple 3 weeks. Only a skiff of snow on the ground.

I was afraid Id have to dip into next years supply too. That was in October when I was swamped at work and couldn't get back to the hills. Now I look at this years pile which should have been gone at the rate I was going and with the weather we've had the past couple weeks I should have a cord extra. My pile was 4 cord which is about normal. I've used 2 and probably won't use a full one at this rate for the rest of the winter. That's southern Idaho for you, cold as all hell one minute, t shirt and thongs the next.

Yep, winter started here in the teens and 20s. Last couple weeks, the nighttime temps haven't dipped below 37. Our wood use is less than last winter at this time. So far, anyhow. Still have Feb and March to go...

same here.....

Seems the "snow drought" is about to come to an end in the NY/NJ area tomorrow and into Tuesday....

Yer leaving us out, in CT, RI, MA, ME, you know. PA and DE could well be in the same mess. :hi: Thanks, Alberta!
Here's hoping everyone is well-stocked with dry splits indoors, and cold golden ones in the snow near the door.

What we in NH don't count? watched the weather this morning, they actually said 10 to 36 inches. I think they successfully covered there butts.

Never said that, but it looks like you're kinda standing back from the firing line, letting Essex County take the hit.

Of course predicting snow is an exact science. Let's compare notes on Wednesday, eh?

Yeah it went from 10-20 early on then the last forcast was 36 inches. I think I'm going to have to bring some wood over to my neighbors for him. I'll have enough but he has about a half cord left and is a bit worried. I'm gonna have to tease him a bit, I own two acres in our neigborhood, he owns 15. I have three trees total, he has 10acres of woods. I work full time, he is retired.

This thread makes no sense to me. 2014 was the hottest year on record, ever. And 2015 should be even worse because our chainsaws and tractors and wood burning stoves are pumping even more carbon into the atmosphere. You should be burning hardly anything at all. Al Gore told us so back in the early 90's and he's an expert on these things.

November was one of the coldest on record for us. Much colder than December and probably lower average temps than January as well. So our real "winter" months have been very easy but a normal shoulder month added in another full demand month to the mix.
