Hey, I'm looking at a used, low hours (under 400) Vermeer BC600XL chipper. I just need a 6" for small brush chipping, and have a tight budget. I can get this for about $6000. Any input on these machines? It is my first chipper...all help appreciated! Thanks!

600

I started off with one. $500 black box needed to be replaced just past warranty date. Wasn't real satisfied with it at the time; but back then I thought I could force feed 6 inch hardwood through it all day. Still use it sometimes, although when I do, I baby it.

I've used them a couple times where I couldn't get my bc1250 to and didn't want to drag the brush out. Decent little unit. A good rule of thumb is to cut the capacity in half for a good "working load." You'll be able to comforably handle 3" on down all day long. Keep the knives and anvil sharp and you'll like the machine.

SC600 is too small for tree work. OK for landscaping. The Bandit 65 is much better in the 6" department and you should be able to get a good one within your budget.

stay away from the vermeer, look into bandit, you could even find a older bandit 100 or 200plus in your price range, it may be older and rougher then a newer vermeer but it will outrun a vermeer by years
