I have a F450 with the 7.3 (Same engine) And yes it is slow... stock.
I put a chip in it and as long as I watch the egt's I run it on a 75 hp setting. Night and day difference. I don't know if you can get the same think for the internationals or not. Not that this means you should do that but maybe it is an option.

thats the kind of truck I drive at work its really not that bad I've driven it 90% full with a 15" morbark behind it and although it is on the slower side its not the end of the world. and the truck has 200K+ i'm sure up north by you it would make it a lot better to drive I go from stoplight to stoplight down North ave. every friggin day...
Yeah, but what motor you got in yours? Prolly the DT466 . @ Ducati- Its got a concrete form bed on the back. 16 footer. Thats the co's color's. Gonna paint over the white roof if I keep it.
pretty sure the one I drive is a 444e the other chipper truck I occasionally run is a 466 I'll double check tommorow pretty sure 444 though. there is a noticable difference between the two, but if you got a smokin deal I'd use it. if you think you could sell this one and make enough to upgrade to a dt466 then all the power to ya. what tranny is it just a 6 speed or does it have a low gear too?
Its a Spicer 5 speed. Think it may be the same trans as my 88, but the 88 has a two speed rear end. Paid $4100 for it. 99 with 96k miles. What do you think?
I think if you put a small chip box on it, and have reasonable expectations, it'll work. Problem is, by the time you get done building the steel box with piston and PTO, you're gonna be into it for what you coulda got a DT466 chip truck for money wise. IE; there is a 96 4700 DT466 automatic in NH right now with a fresh 12-14 yard steel box and paint all around for about 12K. Probably can be had for 11K. Either way bro, it's not the end of the world.
I was just gonna pull the box and pump off my other one. Prolly be hard pressed to get more than $2500 for it if I sell it. (the old one) The rear tires are starting to look like racing slicks and I dont think its gonna pass the next safety lane test with em' and I aint shellin' out the cash for new tires on a dying truck going bye bye. I'll do the work in house. I love metal and fire.:msp_w00t: The one I wanted with a dump needed a new floor and sides and it still went for 8300 at auction.
now knowing that its just a 5 speed I'd ditch it, if it was a 6+ I'd say keep it but I have a feeling you would not enjoy not having an overdrive gear. plus the gear ratios are more spread out so its harder on the motor too prolly take a good bit to get rolling 45mph+... awsome price for the truck though.
Switch it over, clean it up, and put it on the auction block!
Drive it for a year first, right?:hmm3grin2orange:
