We have moved to a business environment where your education and credentials count more than your experience. You don't have to like it, but realize that it is there.

And that is why, in many ways, we are in the mess we are in.
How can you lead if you have never done it?
Thats why the British army quit selling positions to wealthy culls, many years ago.
There are guys who supervise, if they have done the work, they get my respect, if they havn't they still get some respect, but its pretty hard to take them seroiusly.

But not all doctors (only surgeons) operate on people, many do diagnosis and design treatment regimes.

But this is a moot argument as most professionals cannot do the actual work, such as most structural engineers cannot do ironwork, architects do not do construction, corporate accountants don't do bookkeeping, foresters don't log. And yes, most of these professionals will supervise those who do the work.

thats easy, get hired to do it.;)

I agree with you, but in this society, people love to micromanage. The more we know, the more we resent management by hands-off people. buts thats how it is.:bang:

Thats why this industry is where it is, along with the world!! Clearance you think alot like me in this respect.

Not having the ability to do it but having the "book knowledge" usually puts someone in an unsafe position, Ive seen certified utility inspectors tell an apprentice to take this or that off...Not knowing what the trees condition is & that their request was not safe!! Only because Id been up there & was the crew leader did I know such & instructed him not too!

Certain people in power positions dont like what I just mentioned, they feel it undermines their authority...The truth is......If you are certified & unable to perform the duties of those who you supervise......then you shouldnt be in a surpervisory position untill you can do those things!!!

Id like to just for once....see all the non climbing, book smart Certified types be told........ You go up & get it!!! LOL.
