Is it just me or is there a night and day difference in the power a new saw produces and the power a freshly broken in saw produces? I am assuming, not unlike a car or tractor engine, that friction lessens after break in, but I have noticed it MUCH MORE with chainsaws. It seems to me that im gaining almost 1/3rd more power once I get em broke in. Anyone??

This never happened. You are imagining the whole thing. You should send all of your chainsaws to me to avoid any further confusion. If fact you should purchase any potential chainsaw temptations (70cc and larger) and send those to me also. This is your only chance to save yourself. Please start packing them up before it's too late.

I can really see performance gains on my saws the more I run them. I have a PP372 and PP346 and a EHP357xp. All are really running strong and I was told the 357 would take around 28days of working before the full circle crank really would loosen up.

This years Stihl update was a total loss but over the past several years our reps have been pretty consistent in making sure we let the customer know that they shouldn't judge the power and performance of a new saw until its had 4 or 5 gallons of fuel ran through it.

Mostly as a matter of seating in the rings to develope full compression. It pretty rare when someone complains the saw doesn't perform like expected once the engine has those 4 or 5 gallons ran through it, wheras complaints are common from folks who haven't bought one of the newer generation saws before. I think this is pretty much true of all of the quality products, not just Stihl.

4 to 5 Gallons? Thats something like 20 tanks of fuel, no? Didn't realize it took that long to realize full power. John

this is one reason i look for pro type saws at the flea..especially ones with homeowner use stamped all over it..
most times the havnt hurt the motor ..
sometimes aint even broke in good yet..
a new sprocket, bar an chain ,an what they was selling [cause it wasnt cuttin good] is finally going to get some maintenance an do some real cutting.
it always amazes me when these saws have chains with rakers never touched.
