Is it really needed, if so, when?

dont mention using spurs or they'll 'hand you your ass'. although i escaped their childish rants unscathed

Why is it childish to think there should be professional standards? If one is working in tree care, should one not care about the trees? It seems to me that trimming in spikes is careless; it says that the practitioner is just cutting wood for money.

For your information, we do not trim trees, if we trim them, we trim them head high so you can walk around them or we'll trim them higher so horses cant reach them and thats not far enough up to spur and or bring in a bucket truck. or any other way yall go about trimming trees..

I've got the spurs so I can use them for taking down trees and just knowing how to do it, the more things you know, the more oppurtunities you have for work..

Ok, bear with me guys, I am new to the biz and am getting into selective clearing, timbering and brush mowing.

Now, my question, I have recently acquired some climbing gear from a friend and my question, should I wear a hard hat when climbing a tree and if so, should I wear it on every tree or just on trees I see fit?

I've got tons more questions and once I get back on track with work, you'll see alot more, thanks for your help and patience..

Every single tree.. period..

To anyone not sure if you should be wearing a hardhat on the jobsite, call your local OSHA office and ask them. Also ask what the fine is if any worker does not have one during an inspection, surprise or otherwise. Here in VA the fine is 5k per person. 4 person crew without hardhats = 20k fines in violation. They will probably take off 25% for the first violation if your record is clean and they don't find anything else major, so you may get off with only paying 15k the first time. Those numbers should make that $69.00 hardhat look real comfortable and cool.
