Is this saw worth $275 with new chain and overall in very good shape? Echo 900 EVL

The one caveat with older less common saws is you can really get yourself in a bind for spare parts and might run into the issue of having to get a parts saw down the road to replace one part. Whereas if you go with a Husky or Stihl in the same size you'll have to pay a bit more for it, but you are unlikely to have a problem finding a spare part for them.

Thanks

Finally someone picked that saw up!

Glad someone here did, you done just fine for that price if its as good as it looks.

Those are some well made, fine running Echo's.

I still need to pick it up today but the owner knows the history and has had it for 25 or so years. I will post pics when I get it later. Thanks for the additional imput.

This one?

I could use the top cover and hand guard....

So I picked it up and overall it is better than the pictures accept for a damaged corner of the hand guard. Starts great, oils well, just a nice large saw. Very Happy to get it. The sellers Craiglist phone number was one digit off so it was abit hard to get a call back for awhile.

Glad you got it, looks to be nice and I would have pursued it if I didn't already have one. Should the area code have been 503 rather than 603?

Looks like the garbage selling China Man deleted his post's and bugged out of here.

Good thing I quoted him or ya'll would have thought I was really out there. :hmm3grin2orange:

The saw was missing a bolt on the top cover too. Not too shabby. Let me know what parts your after. I found someone with a bunch of parts saws of the 900 EVL.

I'm looking for some recoil parts for my 900 if you have a source.

There's one on Evilbay right now for $800+shipping. It doesn't look near as nice as yours and does not have b/c. Does come with a fast-talking Evilbay sales pitch though. Bet a real world value is a good bit more than what you paid and, even if it wasn't, you have a nice saw and everybody's feeling good

Thanks for the perspective. I had to go out and start it up and rev a bit just because I can............. interesting how the guard is not a chain brake....I replaced the missing bolt after checking the spark plug. This saw is really clean. The Oregon bar has been modified to fit the chain adjustor but it fits tightly. I have not pulled the starter side yet but will soon.

So did any model 900 evl have a chain brake?

Yes, they could have came with either a hand guard setup like yours or a chainbrake. I have seen few with working chain brakes as it seems they were mostly taken off. Yours is the first one I have seen with that handguard though that I can think of off hand.

Another member who used to post here actually got that parts to switch his hand guard out for a complete brake setup and was going to give me his hand guard setup for my 900. Seems he ended up with some traumatic family issues and don't come around here anymore so I never got those parts but I'm ok with that, a few saw parts are not that important in comparison.

Just so you know, the CS-900 actually was designed to use a Oregon D096/D196 style bar mount which is usually referred to as the large Homelite mount. That said, that bar mount style is very close to several others that would only take minor modifications to it to be used on that saw.

From your picture, your saw is missing the small rectangular plate on the bottom that mounts above the oiler.

As to clear up my other post, there was a new member posting with his location in China and he posted a picture of the Chinese chainsaws he was peddling but it seems he deleted his post as soon as I replied to him.
