Frawley's is the pretty much go-to shop in the country, particularly for Oregon chain. Competitive prices, and they stock chain you'll find nowhere else - for example, never seen anyone but them carry Oregon 27RA, the .404 full skip ripping chain.

I buy weird .325 - 24" chain loops from Frawley's - they are great. Locally, you will only find what sells the most locally, and maybe not even that anymore. The best prices and selection will always be online, now.

It highly depends on the brand and type of chain, plus the area you live in.

Example: 3/8" x .050" is common in the U.S., but quality 3/8" x .063"...it can be done, but some brands/types aren't typically/commonly available.

There are suppliers of chain etc. to the logging community in pnw that I've gotten cannon bars of 50" &60" 3/8" x .063 along with made to size Oregon loop for each. Stihl has loosened up on cross state line sales but probably not to my state on Mississippi River. H L has 42" b&c 3/8" x.063 in Stihl s2 IIRC just as 2 online providers.
Farmington MO. has 2 suppliers not to far of Stihl equipment including square chisel chain, but as you say double bevel files are foreign, pnw again. If I want to spin skip chisel it's special order thru one of the suppliers who knew how to here the chain part # . The other one couldn't find it in the computer. A 5 foot bar milling has to have skip chain or the chips clog/bind the process

I’ll tell you the Stihl dealer in Redwood City, CA (in Silicon Valley) charges ~54 cents a link for Stihl chisel skip… (shrug)

(And I don’t buy my chains from them)
