One of the jacaranda trees on our parkway/hellstrip has two trunks that are widely separated. We wonder if the separation has become so extreme that perhaps a cable or other measures are needed to prevent one or both trunks from splitting and falling.

If it matters, the surface roots favor the northward direction, towards our house and possible sources of moisture (roof runoff, garden watering, pool deck). We are located in Los Angeles, CA.

Side note: a City crew recently trimmed the tree, significantly reducing its branch load.

Any thoughts are welcome! Thank you.

It's best to just leave it alone. Good strong Y crotch, with not much load.
By supporting a tree with cables/braces you are acknowledging the tree is defective. Being a street tree in a target rich environment you don't want that liability.
