Stihl or Husky! Jonsereds are made by husky obviously cheaper or they would not exist. One company would not sell the same quality saw under different names. Hey,they own poulan too. Fine saw im sure but a good stihl or husky pro will be a lifetimer for occasional use. Pay a little more once! Dolmar would be a fine choice also but there is probably no dealer in your area.

Actually, husky does sell the same quality saw under different names. Every saw in the jonsered line (except maybe one) has an identical husky equivalent. Just different colors and different shaped flywheel covers.

Sorry guys for not letting anyone know. I bought the Jonsered. I looked at the Husky's but the main factor was the Jonsered Dealer being so close, besides he was very good to deal with, the Husky dealer didn't anser too many questions, his personality could be compared to a box or rocks.....his only response was any model Husky I buy work well....besides, he didn't want to talk about pricing...I live by a simple rule...the sticker price doesn't apply. I have no problems with someone making money, but paying suggested retail is foolish.

The Jonsered is sweet....I own a Stihl trimmer and hedge cutter and a Echo a leaf blower. Maybe it's just me but the Jonsered sounds and feels much smoother. I got two good cutting days in before the big "blizzard" hit.

I really appreciate everyone's input...it really wasn't a hard decision after going to the Husky dealer. It amazes me how some people can stay in business.

Husky vs Jonsered

Jeb, Congratulations with your saw :blob2: It probably was a very good choise at the price you paid. Hope it serves you well!

I think (know) that Brent is basically right in his last post. Sorry Justin, but I think your statement about lesser quality in Jonsered than Husky is not correct.

With exception of both line's two Paulan-prodused POS saws, by now all Jonsereds do have an equivalent in the Husky line, but not vice versa. This situation is quite new, after a long transition period after E-lux takeover (in the early eighties?), until the last 20XX series Jred was discontinued.

To state that they are the same saws except the exterior though, is taking it a bit far. Some are (among them 2050/350 i think), but there is examples of different weight (Jred always the heavy one), power output (goes both ways) and available features like heated carburettors, tall air filters, and possibly cat's and compensating carb's.

Hi SawTroll. I have noticed that the jonsereds are sometimes rated at a little higher weight. I wasnt sure if it was a misprint or if it had something to do with the different flywheel/clutch covers. It makes me wonder if the slightly different power output and rpm ratings are marketing ploys as the internal parts on twin models are identical as far as I know. Are the 2159/359 and 357/2156 the only saws with compensating carbs right now?

Husky/Jonsered

A am not certain which saws have compensating carbs at the moment, possibly it is the models you mention. If memory serves me, it was first introduced on the 2156 though. I think the 357 also has it by now, but it did not when introduced. I may be wrong though.

It seem to me that E-lux first test features of questionable value, which I think this is, on Jonsered models before introducing them on Husky's.

:blob2: WOW, I am on thin ice now.....maybe my "reputation" will be going by the drain pretty soon....

If you desire, study the tests on this site: http://www.dlg.org/de/landwirtschaft/landtechnik/pruefberichte/forstkommunal.html
....some "catalog" differenses are confirmed, some not....
