I picked up a Jonsered 70 E for $50. Has a Windser 16" bar an an almost new chain. The seller claimed that it hadn't run in a couple of years. Fuel tank was dry. I pulled the muffler and found the P & c to be in prestine condition! I filled the tank with 93 octane and mixed at 40/1 with sthil syth oil, gave it a shot of STARTING FLUID and on the second pull it was sucking the oil rich fuel on one side of the cylender and belching fire on the other! Touched up the chain and fed it some hard maple, it cuts better than my Jred 670 !!! What is the real value of this saw if I decide to sell it ?

Good Saw

It is a good saw but heavier than your 670. Some parts are harder to come by than others if it has the plastic flywheel which can become very brittle and detonate......ask how I know. Depending on condition I have sold them for $150-225.00

Good luck and enjoy.

In the future get an atomizer bottle and fill it with mix to use to start a saw. Starter fluid can be death to a 2 cycle that depends on fuel for lubrication. That price sounds like a really good deal to me.

I've been starting 2 stroke engines, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, outboards, chainsaws etc, for almost 50 years and have been using starting fluid to start a stubborn engine for that long and have NEVER had an engine failure due to its use. While I agree that if one were to run such an engine on it, yes it would fail in short order but to give it a little more volitile fuel to start , no problem . Keep in mind that upon the first firing it is pulling in oil laden fuel. also keep in mind that on older saws most have been run with a fuel mix that is anywhere from 16/1 and up . This paticular saw smoked for a long period of time after it fired just cleaning out the old oil. I think that STARTING FLUID in no way caused any harm. But thanks for your concern.

While ether may be frowned upon, it's not instant death. If you continue to dump it in there to keep the thing running, then you may run into an issue. It's less harmful than someone dumping straight gas in a machine and firing it up for a few seconds before realizing OH CRAP. Even that's typically not going to harm the machine under most circumstances involving a few seconds of runtime.

Do a little more cutting with it and you'll stop thinking of selling it. :msp_sneaky:

Value is hard to say. People here in the saw world know what it is and might pay a little more. But in the real world it's just an old saw with a many parts that are NLA. Only someone who used to own one would pay more than $150 for it.

I paid 250 for mine, put a 24in bar on it. It runs like a champ, cut ten cord of wood this year with it
