Yes, I do have one but it's pretty beat. And yes, I do remember when you got your first "plastic" saw. I knew you would like it. They're not pure Jonsereds, but they're not bad either.

Eric, if it's in one piece(45E), would you mind posting a pic of it at least? I'm curious now about this 'rare' J'red. I'm interested in the carb cover/rear handle design. I'm convinced the J'red engineers were smoking Tai sticks when they came up with the 910E wrap handle and the rear handle design. It does make the saw unique, but not in a good way....lol.

Kevin

Whoa....what a weird looking little beastie! Spark plug cover built into the AF cover....looks like half the rear handle is molded to the air box and the other half come off(airbox and one handle side cast mag)?? Then looks like the AV's are down toward the bottom of the airbox, held by those two Allens on either side?

Man, I bet the plastic parts on that saw are purely unobtainium....what stuff externally crosses with other saw models? Thanks, Eric!

Kevin

I got beat out by a couple of bucks on the bay for those .404 Oregon style, half-moon insert sprocket tips I've been looking for, for a decade. He had an assortment of tips that I would never use, but I considered turning around and peddling those. Course I have no way of knowing how high the bidding would have gone if I had stayed in the game. You can't contact the other bidders anymore.....so I told the seller if he has any communication with the buyer that I'd pay a fair price for those .404 tips.

Older members like Eric probably remember when I got my first Jonsered that had red plastic on it...and how I whined....and whined...

heheheh . . . . a couple of whines!!??!! well that's not bad!!!!! . . . . .

If someone has a parts saw in the 670 range they wouldn't mind parting with please send me a PM.

Dean, since you have all those new ones...when you get a chance, could you mic the ID and OD of those things?? I know they aren't perfectly round free-form like that, but you should get a good idea what they are supposed to be.

Kevin

Approx.
The thickness of the felt is 1/8".
The ID is 1/2" with the length at 3/4".

When mating case halves what do you guys use to hold the gasket in place? Some service manuals say to use grease but what kind? Last time I use high-tack but that stuff is sort of messy.

I use Hylomar Blue.....it's a little spendy but it never hardens and gas and oil won't touch it.....it's only as messy as your finger lets it be.....

I like Hylomar blue as well.....use it a lot on larger engines and the Mercedes. They have a spray tack at like NAPA if you want to use that as well. Anymore and I use those blue disposable gloves you get at auto parts places....tired of peeling off some goo that's stuck to my hands for days. Too many yrs of being a plumber and peeling off ABS glue.....and explaining what that black crap is on my hands.

Thanks guys. Is this hylomar blue stuff sticky like high tack or more like rtv? It almost sounds like motoseal when I read the description.

It is sticky Brian......but is best applied in a very thin layer by your finger.......it's not stringy and weird like high tack....and not silicon based like rtv....it never hardens.....when you take something apart you may not even need to add more to put it back together again( depending on pressures etc)......I use it for below deck fuel gauge sensors in fuel tanks on boats ......you CANNOT have fuel leaks below deck.....especially with gasoline......so....it has to be trusted.....and I trust it. It was first specked to me to apply to VW diesel cyl head gaskets to achieve a flexible seal between the alum cyl head the cyl head gasket and the cast iron block which have vastly differing expansion characteristics.....I could be a poster boy for the stuff.......was originally supplied by Rolls Royce.....need I say more?

Okay, I am sold, I can get it on feebay but hoping to find it around here. Thanks for the explanation that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Brian

Thanks Dean! Now if we can only find them someplace.....I'll check that against those wood's box felts I have.

Kevin.

I think you could use a Tillotson 95-172 or an Oregon 07-202 filter element. You may have to trim it for length.

You can get them for less than $2.

If you copy and paste the blue line into Google it will take you to a supplier but there are many out there besides this one.

Item # 610-030 - Fuel Filter Element

I also endorse this product and have never seen it fail. The oil galleries in the older Mercedes engines are very small and the oil pressure is nominally above 3 Bars. So you start slopping around with silicon based sealers and your going to get some 'extra' that flows up and plugs a critical oil gallery. You can always tell how good a MB mechanic is by the sealers he uses....seriously.

The ID is the only thing that is critical...length doesn't matter if you have extra to trim. I don't see thickness making it a big deal either as long as you stick at least to a minimum of 1/8" like Dean measured.

I have quite a few 'spare' used filters in my stash to limp along with for yrs, but would prefer to cut and use new ones every once in a while. Don't feel like paying $6-$18ea for NOS felts either...lol.
