howdys yall.. 1st time postin..a couple questions.. I have a Jonsered 52e.. and the bar and chain are looking dangouresly worn.. talked to a small engine /chainsaw repair guy.. said that bar and chain was not the original and wasnt right for this saw.. it currently has 20 1/2 inch tilton superbar with sprocket and a oregon gear that has a 18242 stamped on it.. also.. the sprocket has a "sliding ring" on it.. i was on ebay and no other sprockets look like this..but i have found many bar/cahin combos that say they will work. would like a 20 in or 18 in bar to replace and the correct sprocket.. This saw was my fathers and its a total powehouse.. i love cuttin with it. I have run other smaller plastic newer saws.. poulen/ homlites.. they just feel right.. If you need any pics of the saw.. let me know.. ill be glad to bring it into the pc room to get this accomplished

It sounds like your saw has had an Oregon rim and drum cltuch drum/sprocket combo put on it. The sliding ring is the drive sprocket. The other type where they are one piece is called a spur sprocket. All you need is a new sprocket rim to freshen this up. It is a superior setup to the spur sprocket, due to better alignment of the chain to the sprocket, and the ability of the chain to align itself with the bar more easily. It is also much cheaper to replace a $5 sprocket rim than the entire cluch drum when replacing a spur sprocket.

As to the bar, if you go to Oregon's website, they provide a selector guide that will tell you what bars fit your saw. Other manufacturers also provide bars and chains, as well as sprockets, if you prefer something other than Oregon. Your saw takes the K095 (Oregon code) mount, which is the standard small Husky/Jonsered and others mount. All you need to do is select your bar length, chain gauge, assuming pitch is .325", and which bar you want. From there, select the chain to match the bar. Pick up a new sprocket rim and the whole cutting attachment is new.

Your dealer should be able to set you up with the correct bar and chain along with a new rim as well.

I just checked, and the 18242 is the 3/8" rim and drum sprocket part number, so you are going to need to either switch to .325" or use the appropriate 3/8" bar, chain and sprocket rim. That is probably why your dealer said it was the wrong setup for your saw. These days, they only list .325" for them, but there are 3/8" components that fit and work. It was commonly put on when new at the time your saw was bought, and has probably been left that way.

Thankyou so much for the quick reply.. my father bought this saw brand new back in the 70s.. and he siad he had a new gas tank liner put in .. and the rest of the saw gone through.. carb.. rings.. this saw has 1 heck of a good compression.. itll make ya think twice when pullin the rope.. another thing.. i was haven probs withthe chain runnin dry of oil.. and i clean the bar guides and saw everytime after i use it.. ran the saw with bar off.. and oil just pumps like crazy out of the case.. so i was thinkin the chain was so far stretched that the bar was covering the hole to much
