OK, He certainly is a very good machinist. But would do it on the end of a crank that is 8mm? Would it be worth it in a shop? Would you guarantee it?
No, the center was not hard. Fairly easy to drill and tap. I made a two-step guide. Large ID to just fit the shaft and smaller ID inside to fit on the taper. That kept it centered. Drill bit hole was long enough to keep the bit aligned. I was able to drill in about an inch as I recall. It was a few years ago.Was the hardened crank a ***** to tap out?
