Barb wire in the tree maybe?
Did any one say the guy needed a mod saw? Most guys shouldnt have one.

Not a newbie Ben, no barbwire, the saw made awsome chips and cut stupid fast, but if I put too much pressure on it, it just flat stopped?

Can't beleive no one has come to your aid Brother Andrew. Listening to your issue I'd lay money that saw is running too lean and therefore has nothing but high Rpms and no power. Good way to find out is simple. Richen it up some and slow it down and give a try. If it has limit caps on the carb turn that high screw back as far as you can get and the low screw too. Don't worry about the idle, fix that later. If it starts pulling better, not faster but better you've resolved your problem. Give a try, it can't hurt. If it works set the idle and go cut wood...

Your question was about your chain dulling very fast, and I can't
answer that, but I can tell you that Sunday was doing some thinning
and cutting about a 14" dia Post Oak when 1/2 way through the cut,
it was like I had the chain on backwards, so I pushed a little harder
and it started to smoke the wood. pulled the saw out chain looked
good, grabbed another saw, started cut from the other side, got it
cut down, but dulled that chain also. The tree had started to rot
on the inside and rotted wood dulled both chains
I was reffering to this post, Andrew.

Like I say, I haven't made the proper time for the saw yet, need to play with it some more and I think you are right, as Ben has been eluding too as well, need to tweak the carb a bit and put the tach on it.

No need to tweak it, just turn them screws back and throw it in some wood. The improvement will be instant if running too lean was the problem. If she striaghtens up right away in the cut then tweak it. Damn shame a Stihl man has to help a Husky user, grrrrrrrrr, lololol

Awwwwwwwwww you'll get it where ya want it, chill out. It merely sounds lean to me. I get alot of saws that come in running way lean and customers groaning it has no power, stops in the cut. Richen it up and chances are your in business............

... Just go back one year and read the posts and the 260 was the rage. Recommended by most folks here, except of course the husky fans. I bought it a little over a year ago based on the raving about it on this site.

In one years time it has become "old technology" ...
I don't remember it quite like that, and I believe the opinions varied quite a lot, depending on what it was compared to, and who participated.

The design is about 20 years old.....
