Well I needed a new maul so I bought a Fiskers X27 super split. Did I make a good decision?

No, no one likes them. Every one on here hates them, There are no threads on the fiskers because they suck, you should use an anvil instead,, the best splitting tool ever.

You will like it, but with that said I have been splitting a lot of oak lately and on the really big oak rounds over 15 " dia. with knots I still use my 6-1/2 lb maul to start, then switch to the x27 when they are smaller. I just find you can do it with the x27 but the bigger maul packs more punch on the really big rounds with knots.

Yep. I have the x-25, very useful and fast splitting axe. Just so you know they may be great, but not the only tool you will need. Hydraulics and mauls will still have their place and be needed.

Don't think you'll be disappointed although its not quite the super wood trembling splitter its made out to be. I use it for dry straight stuff, the gnarly or green stuff gets the mail.

Great piece of Kit..
Well liked by many of the troops here..
Get to it, you will answer your own question..
Cheers..

OK, if I were to buy one or two and consolidate them with other things I've got coming out of the USofA, who would have the best deal including shipping to LA please?
Cheers.

If your in shape.... a fiskars is nearly as fast as a hydraulic splitter (if you understand where to place your shots on the log)

If your not in shape..... you soon will be. Excellent way to excercise (remember the scene of Charles Bronson splitting wood w/ an axe in "The Magnificent Seven" with Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen.)

My Fiskars is new but Ive put it thru the ringer. Am going to be buying another for back up.

Thank you.

I've been looking into this a little deeper today. One of the biggest hurdles us 'down under' face when buying from USA is the fact many retailers can't or don't want to sell to us. I've found a few different websites that help us get around that by having their own USA warehouse that we can ask the sellers to ship to (provided said sellers will ship to an address that isn't our credit card billing address), where they will then consolidate orders and on-freight to us down here. That's great and I can see how that would work well.

However, I reckon there's a niche there for some enterprising, trustworthy American/s to act as buying agents and getting the best deals and charging a commission for getting that order list to the consolidation warehouse on our behalf.

Like some have said. You still need a maul and splitter. I've found the metal is a little soft. A good tool, just not the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Hmm, I wonder if it's a batch issue with hardening? My Super Splitter is on the hard side -- have to be very careful to have a good block because the edge will chip before it goes blunt.
