Well if the question now is whether or not to spend the extra $150 for a 359, I'd have to say go for the 359. JMO.

Jeff
Ditto - I totally agree with Jeff! :blob2:

Just a thougt though - Here in Norway the Stihl MS361 is less money than the Husky 359, and it is more power, and probably less weight, in the real world........

No emission standards apply to small engines new in NZ or Aus..and yea saws are pricey here..$950 for a Joh2154..to replace my 2051 that had an argument with a wheel..and mostly lost...shop around, theres quite a bit of old model stock sitting around in shops, especially this time of year (coming out of winter)..better supporting the local economy with your cash on other things...I don't begrudge businesses making a buck...but check price variations and ask yourself, why the differences...some chainsaw shops can be real rogues.. so price compare an haggle the price down...don't go for extras...you probably won't need them

I have never heard of a Jred 2154, and think you are referring to either a 2054 or 2152.......

Could also be a model CS-2145

Boy do I agrre, no contest between a 455 and a 359. The 359 will eat up a 455 or 55, these two are not even in the same league.

I suggest you also look for the same models in the Jonsered lines. Basically same saws as the Husqvarna (they go down the same production lines) but normally Jonsered's are less $$ and far prettier than a husky in their red & black coats.

Jonseys are less? Maybe in Canada, eh. But not south of the border anywhere I have seen. Usually a little more than their orange counterparts. But you are right, they are some nice lookin' saws.

lol bac to comparing the saws,IS the 455 that much of a dog of a machine or r u guys just going by the cc rating and the weight

We're going by the fact that the 55/455 is a homeowner's saw, and the others mentioned are professional grade saws. The 455 will do fine in the role it's designed for, which is light firewood, and homeowner tasks, but beyond that, it's not worth the hassle. You get what you pay for, and that's why professional saws cost more-features, power to weight ratio, construction, and so on.

Jeff

in NZ the 455 is rated as 1 of the bigger farm saws and the 359 is a semi pro,bit of useless info for ya;)

he y guys thanks for all input, i've decided to go with the 359 ,i think ill be much happier with it that the 455,is there any where here to upload specs coz i finaly found a pdf file containing operaters manual(2.3 megabytes and maybe some 1 might find it useful ,and yes the jets r fixed ,giving only half a turn up or down from factory settings

boxhead, I have a 359 and love it. I have had no problems, and it has gotten better with use (easier starting). I have been looking to find a definitive answer on whether the XTorq on the 455 actually gives it more torque or not, but the 359 has more HP at less weight, so for the extra $$, I think you will be happy. Although one person on another site argued that the power:weight of the two was the same since the 455 holds less fuel and bar oil, thereby making the weights similar. Uhhhh, OK.

Plus, I don't recall if someone mentioned it, but the 359 has magnesium cases, whereas the 455 is metal-reinforced plastic. In the end, I think well worth the small amount extra. I have a PDF file with more info than the owner's manual, but it is on another computer. I'll try to remember to look for it if someone else here can't scrounge something up.

thx blow down i think in the long run ill be much better off with the 359 ,the wood im doing at the moment is old man pine(80year old + radiata pine, just in case u dont know what old man pine is)and some of the buggers are bout 4 to 5 foot across at the base altho i dont norm do trees that size as there aint many left around the area (1 that i cut down in the stand had over 105 rings, seemed a shame to drop a tree that old )so it will be reasuring to know ive got a saw that will handle it from time to time,i pick the saw up in the morning as i have to wait for them to get the bar down from where ever they get sent from cause i want an 18 inch and all they had was 20in and then ill see how far the wood chips fly:)

Not useless, but accurate. I think that describes each saw's niche well, though I'd still consider the 455 a homeowner saw. And the difference would be noticable. I think you'll appreciate getting that 359.

Jeff

353, 359 and 365

I have seen those models adverticed as pro, semipro, allround and midrange at different markets and/or times.
I doesn't really matter, because build quality is definitely pro - same as 346xp, 357xp and 372xp.

Those aren't fixed jets then, are they? They're adjustable with limiter caps. Fixed is completely fixed, no screw, no nothing, from what I understand.
