OK Ken,

So how do we do this? I send you my 3120 powerhead and you do things to make it run better.
I guess it would be prudent to ask a few questions so we can get started.

1. What level do I want to go to with this?
2. How and where do you want me to send it?
3. How much and when?
4. How long will it take ya?

I guess you da man, so this should be fun. Let me know.:D

Wrong questions...

You send him the power head

You tell him what you want and what for.

You tell him if you need too, how much you are willing to spend.

I am not speaking for KD or any other racer/builder... but I will tell you that you get what you pay for and earn in this sport like many other sports and the power head is only 30% to 50% of it.

You WILL spend more time on Technique and Race chains than you did making money to pay for your hotsaw.

All you have to do is put all three together for a few seconds. My suggestion is to start small (5 cube and under) and learn all you can and WIN...then move up...The guys in these classes know thier stuff but many do not have the money for a 3 to 5 thousand dollar saw much less a 20 thousand dollar saw.

Welcome to the sport, Start at the top if you want and work your way down, then you can climb back upto the top...maybe...
just trying to save you time.

Any racer dissagree out there ?? ??

Race?

Uh, well Robert, I really never thought about racing in hotsaw competitions, but maybe in the future when I get some time. I certainly seems like it might be a hoot. For right now, I just use it for falling (mostly stumping and an occasional big tree). Beyond that, I just want a more potent, but reliable saw just for the hell of it. If that's not OK, let me know and I'll figure out something else.

By the way, how's the Predator doing?

Ken and I talked for about an hour tonight on the phone. What a knowlegeable and personable guy he is. I'm all set with the 3120. I'll be sending it to him this next week for a "woods job". I suspect that my 266 will follow soon after.:p

DB...hahaha...you are already smitten with the Dunnulated bug...
as soon as you get your saw home, not only will your wifes hairdryer and your toaster be on the way to Ken, but your garage door opener will be there too....welcome to "our" world!!!

Hi DB, I too call Ken at least once a night to harrass him and talk saws. Ken is my official timer and he cant get enough, especially when an Art Martin chain is involved.
When you call Ken the best way to start the conversation is to say: " Hi this is Gaston Duprere, how ya makin out, got ere Dunn yet?
Ken is building a saw for me also and if its done by July then thats fine with me, cause I need it for the Clearwater revival.
I already got the chain, so it's just fun from here on in.
John

Just wondering. The festival is in July? This is the middle of February. Get another chain on the way and practice your tecnique now with what you got.

Hello john,
wow john! you've got 4 huskys there and a unlimited supply of 8 inch cants. you must be trying to get a head start on the fellows in clearwater. does dennis know what your up to? he's probably going to rescind your invitation.
You had better go see your shrink, i think you have been bitten by the chainsaw racing bug

Hi Mike, everythings all set and running according to Hoyle. I am the proud owner of at least two racing chains, both my Masters Martin and Galer. I will be sending at least 28 Floppys to Ken for timing of at least 7 saws and 4 chains.
Ken, your pretty smooth and I look forward to getting a saw by you. I hope my buddy Robert gets you to do up an 066 for him.
Just havin fun and loving it.
John

Electronic things

Hello all you arboristsite people,
talked to doug babcock(dbabcock) for a while the other nite about saws and about electronics. doug works for one of the companys that build intergrated circuits. and he certainly knows his stuff. most of the thing he was explaining to me was way over my head but i had him on saw motors. but if you have a question on computers or electronics send him a post or a e-mail. he will be glad to answer your questions

Phone calls

Hello dennis,
Its hard at times but if i leave the phone in the house i can usually get some work done. but lets face it, its always more fun to tell lies on the phone and recheck arboristsite since dennis, john lambert, walt, and rupedoggy the others have got on there than to work out in the shop. but you know this better than anyone, how many mornings are you one the phone from 8 to noon with 17 calls and have only got 15 minutes worth of work done by lunchtime.
p.s. Usually get the work done working the late shift. ha.ha.
ken

Ken, I know exactly what you mean...lol...between answering the phone...fixing and building saws...doing all my own accounting and paperwork, billing and taxes....and checking Arboristsite several times a day.....one doesnt get alot of work done...and yep..I find myself out in the shop till midnight lots of nights of the week....but....I love it...lol..

Hi There, Dennis is either on the phone, drinking beer or ruining my 346XP. His dad told me Dennis thought the decomp plug was a sparkplug hole so he just put a glowplug in from a model airplane engine. Now I have to use a big twelve volt battery just to get the glow plug working. Not only that, he shaved the cylinder too much and it runs like a diesel now after he installed a counter piston in the head. It didnt held either that he just send the unboxed saw with just my address in black magic marker enblazened on the bar with the chain stuffed in the fuel tank, with the barwrench neatly duct taped to the sidecover.
Anyway, I got into a bush yesterday, first one since Dec. and dumped some beautiful Black Cherry and Maple.
Heres a picture of me bucking a nice Cherry with Greffardieselized
2171.
John

John, well it seemed very good in theory....two spark plugs..twice the power:confused: and at least I covered the tip of each cutter with wax first as not to harm the inside of the tank....lmao...at least I didnt send it in a legal envelope....sheesh....what do you want from me??

boy now he is incorporating ford 4 cy technilogy in to a chain saw. you know those communist engines wiht the 8 spark plugs on a 4 cyl. that is just wrong. i plug per cyl is good enough. i don't know what those guys were thinking.

Hi There, here's a picture of Walt's chain that he modified for me. Ken Dunn has the times of the various saws against Art's chain and will post the results when he gets all the videos.
Thanks to all,
John Lambert
