Hey guys (and any ladies that might be out there!)- I want to put together a list of all the "knot oriented websites" out there. I get emails from people a lot asking about this knot or that. I'd like to be able to refer them to a good website.

I've got a couple, and have seen MANY in the past. I just thought there might be some folks here that know some good ones off the top of their head.

Thanks!

love
nick

ps- Here are two that google just showed me. I will keep adding them to the above list so that they will be easy to find in the future!

Great thread, Nick!

i think'ya got the rest!

http://www.geocities.com/roo_two/knotindex.html -Already mentioned is My 'odd knot 'source- has a water bowline (clove instead of single choking half hitch) and the self contained 'poldo tackle'; pretty unique finds!

Also, already mentioned is XMan's site:http://community-2.webtv.net/acutabovetree/RopesSplicingKnots/index.html Tthat all along for years now has given away the advanced friction hitches ya couldn't find anywhere; let alone all collected and sharp; for tree climber's. i think that knot site has been passed around us the most for years now; and is a definitely a site to visit.

We draw sources from rescue, boating, mnountain, boy scouts, navy, army etc. Some day these disciplines will be looking at some of our knots and strategies; with the growth/learning curve that we are on. Once again i think a comprehensive one stop list would be better than 20 sites to run to, one site of record for spelling, definitions, uses etc. for all around tree stuff. We use lines and knots different, and through a wider range of use than most other disciplines; the ways we test these things daily; is quite something to offer others a view of IMLHO.

Nick,

dont have any knot sites, but several years back, I bought a deck of playing cards and each card had a different knot on it. Many of them I had never heard of. They made great christmas gifts to my scouting friends.

Ill see if i can dig it out the info on where I got them from. Let ya know later.

Great thread;

Somewhere, now lost;

i had a deck of playing cards for spotters in WW1 i was told.

The cards had silhoettes of different planes on them;

So that the spotter's would sit and play cards,

And learn to identify friendly from not planes,

That they watched the horizon for.

In going thru some olde links sent to me by some of the same folks on board here now; i found this guide that in the first of the downdloads on page 32 starts the Rescue Knot section; very technical analisys. Very good books IMLHO .

Changing number in page-of-so-many-pages box in bottom Left Corner of .PDF file reader; jumps to that page.

Free Download: "Life on a Line" Book

Left Clicking allows reading on line, Right Clicking and choosing "Save Target As"; allows downloading to home pc.

The "YMB" Yosemite Mountaineering Bowline; is my favorite temporary (non-shrinking) eye in the end of a line ; a lot easier to make with the slipknot method of tying a bowline, just keep the dual choking rings loose till the very end of making the bowline, then, the single loop a lil loose, to slide the Yosemite Tie Off into place.

I've done some searching and researching and have come up with a GREAT deal for all Arboristsite members. I have acquired a supply of "Knot Playing Cards". Each deck shows over 50 knots.

I am making them available to Asite members for just $6.00 per deck (MSRP=$7.95) + shipn.

Email or pmail or call to get yours. I should have them in about a week (around Jan 30).
