ok so hears the ? i have a small landscapeing comp. and i need to retire the 3 homelight saws i have bin using for trimming small takedowns and cutting rail road ties also what whould be some good saws to look at under lets say under $475 thanks alot all. its only used like 5 or 6 times a month

There are a bunch of good saws ou there under $475. Shindaiwa, Makita, Jonsered, Stihl, Husky, Solo, all have good saws in the 45 to 50 cc range. The 346xp or 026 would be good choices and well under that price.

For less experienced saw users and guys used to weedeaters and blowers, I'd recommend something cheaper and smaller. The Echo 3450 would probably be a great landscape saw. I use the 3400 for climbing, got 3 years on my current one and it is still perfect. Less than $300 for the 3450. Get a 14" bar on it. Controls are similar to weedeaters and blowers.
And it is WAYYYY better than those POS homelites.

Sounds like a MS260 is as big as you need. Also check out the 210 and 250 in the Stihl line. The tree guys around here are using them in the tops with good results. Of course, the MS200 is the best of the bunch.
Who is you best and closest dealer?

Would you need two saws?

A big one to cut the railroad ties (They can wear on a chain pretty quick) and a smaller saw for trimming?

ok i whouldent mind paying 700 for 2 saws or should i spend more i like the stihls it is the kind we have at the firehouse i think they are 024 a/v wood bosses i think

seems like the info you need has been stated here sbvfd592. As usual depending on your circumstance? Lots of saws to chose from. I spent a couple of hours w/a tree service a couple of months ago. They were dropping a 3+ ft oak next to a church around the corner from me. (rural) They had a 046 which they used to cut the stump and an 020 on the truck witch they didn't use at all, while I was there. There was a 340 or something up in the bucket and some other homeowner saw(s) down on the ground. They told me if a saw lasted 6 months with them, they considered it a good saw. I know he wasn't talking about the 046 or the 020. They seemed to know what they were doing, although the luck was not with them that day.

I would think one saw would be just fine, 50cc range w/ a 16" or 18" bar, should take care of almost anything you have described. I can't imagine why you would need anything larger, especially if most of the work is trimming and RR tie cutting. A tie is what, 8 x 10 at the biggest? 16" bar will handle that all day long.

028,026,20 t ,cs3400. all of these will fill your needs i think.of course t 028 is my choice . if only one saw.but u do really need two.jmho 028 is just a tad heavy if u doing any climbing . but i used it for yrs.
