Not only that, when the aliens land it may be one of the easier things they can figure out....................*runs for coathangers and tinfoil* :D
Ya, is late (early) time ta hit the hay fer sure.

some files are only accessible via microfiche. perhaps model is so old and rare. mfg will not spend $$ to convert to digital.

really old files are only available on paper catalogs.

when I had to use one daily, years ago. hated it.... always gave me a headache.

I didnt know you were OLD SCHOOL :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Geeez Andy, collecting old puter stuff, da leopard must be loosing some teeth :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I bet you are not going to use it. On a flea market a few years ago, I bought and old school linear (manual calculator), because it brought back souvenirs from my youth. It's still laying in the shed somewhere, never ever used it. You have to let old things go sometimes :sucks:

If it is available it is available on a PC.... If i were him i would scan in all the images... and make a quick html table of contents and burn it to CD... Then I would probally shoot that thing a few times with the 30-06 and sell copys of the CD on ebay and on here....

Microfiche made it well into the '80s. I used to fix mainframe computers and all my tech info and IPLs were on fiche. Lake's picture brought back some memories for me.

It was not until the PC really caught on that the microfiche technology became obsolete.

Good post!

Hybrid microfilm/computers

We actually used microfilm cartridges to store images of documents up through 1996 - we filmed about 10 million pages from '92 to '96, before we switched to CDs. The cool part was the machine that had both a film reader and a computer in it, so you could type in the page numbers you wanted printed. The machine would zoom through the pages and do the printing autommatically, so you wouldn't have to go cross-eyed staring at the screen all day.

Don't ask me how many trees we killed doing all that printing . . . but I'm sure the loggers supplying the paper industry weren't complaining!

MICROFICHE... anybody less than 50 can googgle to find out what it is...

The hard disk will never crash, the OS will NOT need updating, it's virus proof, and.. will still work in 200 years time...

I still have my reader for my Audi IPLs and factory manuals. but it's in a box because PDF is so much more convenient. And printable.

Viruses? I haven't had a virus since the Jerusalem virus back in, oh....., 1989 maybe. And if you burn it to a CD, you're good for YEARS before you need to burn it again.

And it won't work in 200 years - the bulb will let it's smoke out LONG before that. Trust me - it it knows just when you need the docu the most. And it goes poof! :blob2:

And then good luck finding a replacement bulb. :chainsawguy:

It uses a Standard" halogen projector bulb... it came with a spare. Says on the side "estimated life - 40 hours". Hmmm... A small array of the new high power LEDs... for focused sunlight.. ;)

I'll probably scan the older Stihl stuff, but the huge amount of Echo, Poulan and Homelite data isn't worth it for the handful of times I'll (maybe) need to access it.

Older IPL's are useful. Stihl has a habit of dropping the really old info and just showing you the upgrade path. That's great, unless you are in "restoration mode" or just want to put an old model back togther again.
