For sale is a custom built chainsaw sawmill. I built this sawmill to mill large oaks in the area, and wanted something heavier and more rigid than what was available for purchase. I used all 1.5”aircraft grade extruded aluminum for the framing and brackets and stainless steel for the top support tubes. I used some parts by Granberg, such as the Granberg End Brackets, Adjustment Posts, Roller Bracket, Helper Handle w/ Roller, and Auxiliary Oiling system. I tried very hard to make this mill crane as rigid as possible to keep the surface finish of the milled lumber as nice as possible. I haven’t been disappointed at all in its operation.
The powerhead is a Stihl MS881. I have only ever used Stihl oil in it at the specified ratio. I bought this powerhead this spring and have put probably 10-15gal of fuel through it.
The bars included are the original Stihl Rollomatic ES (41”) that came with the powerhead, a Cannon SuperBar (72”), and a Cannon SawMiller (96”). The Stihl bar has only made 1 cut. The Cannon SuperBar has made around 25-30 cuts and was always rotated at sharpening and the tip was always grease at every tank of gas. The Cannon SawMiller has only been used to make 23 cuts.
The chains…with the exception of the chain that came with the powerhead/bar, all of the chains are Oregon brand. There are two ready made rip chains for the 96” bar that are Oregon 27RX Hyperskip chain. There are two ready made rip chains for the 72” bar, which are Oregon 27RA Chains. Also for the 72” bar is two Oregon 27AX Full Skip cross cut chains. In addition to the 7 chains, I have two spools of 27RX hyperskip chain and one spool of 27RA fullskip chain, plus a small bag of hardware for making chains. I am a bit OCD, and have matched the ripping chains to specific drive sprockets. I also have 4 more Stihl sprockets for use on new chains.
I also will include a small bag of a few spare parts that would come in handy at some point. I also have end caps for the framing that I never installed, and plastic pieces that go on the aluminum frame to keep dirt and dust out. They are the king it’s from pieces in the photos…just needs to be cut and popped in.
This mill took me a few months to design and build and to gather all the parts. I have really enjoyed running it, and have absolutely no complaints with it. The hand winch makes cutting a slab an absolute breeze. My only reason for selling is too much overtime at work and another baby on the way just leaves me no time to really put this mill to work. I finished all of the large oaks that I had, and now want it to go to someone that will use it more often than I am capable of in my current circumstance. I also have the tools to assemble the chain links, and can include those at additional cost. Let me know if there are questions.
