Thanks for the link. Yes, it is confusing :dizzy: , and I'll need to do some serious research before letting anyone 'cut' on my eyes. Some places here even offer special financing!! Not that I'd be swayed by a financing offer, but it does make me wonder how many places 'sell' people a procedure that might not be the best one for their particular condition or problem. Opthamologists wouldn't do that, would they  ?

Anyone have any unusual experiences with night vision? As I understand it, astigmatism interferes with light reception. I'm a light 'addict,' dimly lit rooms drive me nuts.

Data, glad that all went well for you.

Oh yes, some of us lucky ones ;) do get better looking with age, lol.

So you're saying her vision is in decline? :p

I got better looking without my glasses. Seriously. Another customer (twice a year since 1988) asked me if I was my son. BTW I don't have any sons, only daughters. These women are both around 80, so maybe their vision is in decline.....although I like to think I am ageing well.

My daughter had some eye problems when she was younger and had some work done by a member of the team that did my procedure. I was familiar with facility and staff and how they treated the patients after surgury which was big influence on my decision to use Dr. that worked on me. I also found out through research that many low cost laser places have one Dr. take measurments and evaluation and then fly in specialists to do procedure. Another Dr. does follow -up and so on. I have seen same Dr. for initial visit, procedure and follow -up, and staff has promptly returned my phone calls giving me home and cell phone contact numbers. I am now 48 hours post surgury and seeing better than yesterday, was driving today and going to grind some stumps tomorrow. This is truly an amazing thing. :)

My lasik surgery was about 8 years ago. Great safety improvement. No more rain on eyeglasses or steamy lenses. It's easier to wear safety goggles. No limbs snagging my glasses off.

Mine was under $1000 per eye by Dr. Crews in Vancouver, VA. My friend went there too. No one should need to pay over $900 per eye anymore, and still get a great doctor. Some places are under $500 per eye if I heard correct.

By the way...... the pain medication is given before the surgery. Then...the extra pain medication that's given "in case you need it" -----don't wait to see if you need it. Take it anyway. If you wait, then need it, you'll have something like a migrane for about 90 minutes before the stuff kicks into gear. I say...just take the stuff. By morning, maybe a bit of eye irritation may occur, but you'll be seeing 20/20 in about 36 hours.

The most irritating thing may be waking up the first few mornings and turning around in a bunch of 360 degree circles looking for your glasses, then realizing that you have clear vision while you are looking due to habit.

Been over 2 weeks and had my follow up with eye Dr. for results. My vision was 20/400 & 20/375 with astigmatism both eyes, 2 weeks later post lasik 20/20 both eyes, no astigimatism detected. Going to DMV this week for new license picture and to remove corrective lense restriction. Still using lubricating eye drops few times a day for dry eyes, which should correct in a few months, some halos on headlights while night driving but nothing worse than when I wore glasses. Amazing procedure and glad I had it done, if you are on the fence about it or you want some details about the procedure PM me and I will be happy to talk about it.

A friend and co-worker had his last December. One eye got a rare infection. The physician, who had done 1,000'ds of these, dismissed the call (when Tim asked about the pain/irritation) as normal.
Fortunately, Tim made to alternative medical care and eye was saved. But only a partial recovery so far.
You have anything after any surgery that doesn't feel right. Get to another Doc quick.
I know of several other people that have had wonderful results.
All the Best.

Did his surgeon have follow up exams? My lasik surgeon had me come in the day after, 7 days, 2 weeks, then 30 days to make sure there was no infection. He also told me if there was any pain, swelling, blurriness, anything at all out of the normal, to call the office to schedule an exam. Lasik should be a rather painless procedure, even the actual cutting feels like just slight pressure on the eye.

Wife had it done a few years ago. Overall she is pleased, but suffers from dry eyes, which is supposed to be a reasonably common side effect.

Do a google search for lasik and dry eyes for more info

Seeing is believing - or hearing makes believers - whatever

Just stumbled on this post. Great reading!

I have been a little apprehensive about the surgery (have not yet scheduled anything), but reading about your success and you do work as me, well, I think I'll have my wife read your posts!

Yes, I wore glasses starting at age 11 (I'm now almost 45) and wear contacts since age 18. My sister had the surgery 6 years ago, and since she hasn't even mentioned anythiing about it for about 5 years, that tells me she just plain forgot about it!

I have eyes that produce very little tears (my eye doctor as a kid almost did the minor surgery where they plug up the drain to the nasal passage to keep the tears up in the eye). Anyway, I use a tear enhancer two to three times a day already, so washing or rinsing my eyes I already do.

I would love to wake up and see! I can't remember what that is like... I know it would affect in a positive way, many other aspects of life. Like right now, my bifocals are half-way down my nose! Argghh!

Thank you.

Gopher, go and get a few opinions on the procedure from some qualified dr's and see what they say. My Dr. told me before the initial exam that if my eyes did NOT pass some preliminary tests regarding dry eyes, astigmitism and such that he would NOT attempt the surgury. I appeciated the fact that he would turn away a patient rather that attempt a procedure that might not work or cause problems. It is a major decision and you must feel 100% confident in your Dr. Before the procedure, I went to a seminars about it, saw the operating room and laser, met the actual Dr. that would do the procedure and have seen him since. Like Koa, my Dr. saw me the next day, 1 week, and 30 days. I have a 90 day visit soon. I did pay more than some local low-cost lasik places but I have no regrets about the cost involved or the results. Good luck
