Another idea is to get a couple guys from a tree company you don't like and offer them more money then what they're making.....I would only do that if it's a fly by night company who under cuts everyone's jobs.

We are having the same problems, either no one wants to or when they do they are completely green. Now we actually have a good crew to where I can do the stump grinding and trees. For the longest though it was hard to even find someone that wants to work and learn!!!!

not all young guys sit on the couch all day. im 20 yrs old, and dont have a tv just so i get more motivated to go outside. been looking to get hooked on a co. in olympia wa for over a year, but nobody wants to let me work and learn. theres kids that got the drive out there, id just try somewhere else than craigs... one more thing, sorry for being a noob on here but i learn more here than 101

I started working when I was 5 lol my dad is a carpenter/gc so I did Summers and weekends since I could walk basically I was ready to take a crew by the time I was 14 I showed up so many guys my dad had it was hilarious
I started with my grandpa at 12 doing the same thing in summers, I guess that's where I learned to work hard. Taught me to work hard in life, ask questions, and learn all you possibly can! I am a career firefighter and work with a guy part time but that has tought me so much with tree work!!!

What's it matter I'll throw out what my Co pays its sucky but it is what it is ground man with a cdl starts at 14 in a couple months if u show u wanna work u get 15 in a year or so u get 16 if ur not a useless pos... Why it gotta be a secret? Plus we get medical vision and dental for like 15 bucks a week climbers kinda have a big range we have had guys for 16 but those are the guys who keep quiting and coming back and getting fired and coming back.. Climber with cdl is generally 23-24 if there good... This may be some of the reason we don't have a lot of good people, dunno

Around me if you got a cdl you can get 15$ at the worst paying places and be home at night with benefits . And as far as I'm concerned a truck driver is a step above unskilled labor . Tree guys don't do well in my area unless you own your own company . And most of them are drug addicts or dunks and starve through the winters . With the price of fuel . Car insurance , rent . And food it's hard to live on 10$ a hour . After taxes you get 300 and you spend 100 a week on fuel and car insurance . I spend 200$ a week at the grocery store . I do tree work on the side and am insured and all that happy stuff. Usually just me and my brother . Every now and again we will need a helper but I'm not going to get anyone that's worth a wiggle for under 15$ a hour and even then they are close to worthless , if they are smart and motivated the last thing they will do is get a job with a tree service as seasonal labor . I get stuff like I can't be on the books because I'm on disability or unemployment . And if they aren't on the books and something happens your screwed . In the beginning of the Sumer I saw a guy take off a finger with gas hedge clippers . He sued my neighbors insurance company . He was paid under the table by some shady lawn care outfit . Government assistance around here you get your apartment, electric, heat bill, cell phone, food, even your car payed for and all you have to do is not work . Every-time I see someone buy gas for there car or cigarets or beer with a government access card I make a point to tell them very loud( YOUR WELCOME )

Hate to say it but finding good workers is not isolated to the USA. Same thing all over the world. I have been in my industry for 10 years. started when I was 14. Always see people come and go. Some stay longer then they should. I would rather take on a total newbie with a proper attitude then someone with just enough experience to think they have a clue.
