I just realized the two of us are in this picture from last year's TCI. :)

I took the velcro straps off my standard leg scabbard, and wrapped around/glued them to the zubat scabbard, which works very well. The zubat "sticks" to its own scabbard better when upside down.

I've been using a leg scabbard that I made from the authentic Silky scabbard, much like Fred's.

I'd stick with that if you are crafty enough to make one yourself. They are more compact than the sherrill ones. I made mine with about $4.00 of supplies and about 30 minutes at the sewing machine, but many have done it for less!

I finally rigged up a zubat leg scabbard. Nice. The scabbard works good on the leg.

Sure was cool to have more of that valuable real estate on my saddle.

I figure it would have been in the way much more. Instead, it was more handy.....

Can't believe I didn't try that earlier.....

I tried the leg scabbard for a couple weeks and had a problem with comfort. There is considerable chaffing that occurs from the straps and no matter where you attach it, it aways slides down.
After about a half a day of hard climbing, I can't take it any more.

It does clear up real estate on the saddle, as tex mentioned, but there are trade offs.

I've been using my leg scabbard for about 2 years now. I'm super happy. I've made my own by putting velcro straps onto the Zubat scabbard. The first I made was with elastic straps about 1.5" in width. The second uses non-elastic and 2" wide straps. Both were good, the elastic being more comfy. They stayed in place 90% of the time. Every now and then I'd have to adjust it. But the total time I spent adjusting each week was way less than the time I used to waste each week reaching for my saw and not being able to find it because it was tangled up in the chainsaw, slings, flipline and who knows whatever else.

Either don't buy your own because they are expensive, especially when you add on s&h. Maybe if you ask Mr. Maas really nice, he might send you his! You can make one pretty easily, too.

let us know how it goes!

here is a pic of my leg scabbard I have an elastic band that I slip around the bottom half of the scabbard and my leg, but I usually forget to put it on, most of the time it is a non issue, but on occasion my lanyard or climbing line will slide up under the scabbard, but the ease of access and replacement makes up for any of the negatives.

I stole the idea from hillbilly, this is a $4 dog collar that has 2 peices of webbing sewn together, cut the stiching to open the 2 peices up, take off the front zubat plate and screw it down on top of the webbing. I had to snip the webbing to make it small enough to fit under, but I've been using this for about a year now.
Hillbilly posted a better pic, search for it.

Just had a hard day of climbing and ouch.

I am using 1 inch elastic.

I will go wider or try the leash set up.

i am a little freaked out about having something strapped to my leg. I am going to try though. I have beem contemplating it. some great ideas.

I tried the leg scabbard. I didn't like the way it felt or the way my climbing rope always seemed to get hung up in it. This is picture of a scabbard mounted on the right leg strap of my Master saddle. I have yet to climb with it but it looks promising! It is lower than the original "on the side of the saddle" thereby freeing up some saddle space. It is still in roughly the same location so it is not too much of an adjustment.

I took a leg mounted scabbard and took the straps out. Then I threaded the saddle leg strap ( a little hard to do ) through the top strap loop.

Aww Brian, You don't really care what the guys think do you? Just tell 'em you've been watching old westerns and thought you might get more biz as a hired gun if you wore your guns tied down for a faster draw! We can even fabricate an Echo scabbard for the other leg.:D

My leg scabbard came out of my suit case and doesn't want to play nice. Suicidal, the Zubat keeps leaping to it's death.

Really embarrassing. I dropped it 4 times yesterday.

It seems the saw has nicked the scabbard too much on the part that "locks" it in.

Anyone ever have this problem? Or know a quick fix for it?

Rich, I have been climbing with my saw mounted on the legstrap of my Master II for a while now. I was going to make a post about how well it works as soon as I got back on AS but you beat me to it.

I used the scabbard that came with my Zubat. I stitched a small brass snap to the saddle legstrap and adjusted the length of the webbing on the scabbard so that the saw handle was even with my hand. Kind of like a tactical holster for a pistol. It is always attached to my saddle so there is not an extra item to put on before ascending.
