Thats really nice for the member to do that. Ill bet he got a nice warm fuzzy feeling when he did it. Great story all around. Shows just how nice the members are on AS.

Well Mark, To be truthful the only thing I can say for certain is when I used this saw and that would have been March or so of 77 as I bought that 49 with my income tax refund in April of that yr. Clyde had said it was brand new but who knows how long it had been at the dealers. So I can't be certain that this saw was not a couple yrs older than that. A small used saw like that didn't have many buyers around here back then. It was, for all purposes, just like new. It was a smart little saw too as I remember, but I needed more bar for what I needed a saw for at the time. As far as the "S" goes, I think Jonsereds kept that until at least 81 or 82 or so when they became Jonsered. So I believe that guard would be correct for that saw. The one I used had the same thing, like very heavy industrial cardboard all rivited together. Perhaps when Poulan stopped production of this saw for their company, Jonsereds subbed them out and continued to market them for a while. I don't know just a thought.

That red Lil' Jon sure looks nice. By the way..........you're as generous a man as this other 'mystery' AS member. You've given saws, parts, and advice to several folks here.......myself included. This is indeed a case of what had been going around coming around. Cheers to both of you!

I agree 100% with Eccentric, Mark is one of the "good guys" on here and why I keep coming back.

Robin I was thinking the same thing that they might have continued that model just for Jonsereds but I really don't see why they would have. Not sure it would have been cost effective unless they had a bunch of 2.1 pistons and cyls they just wanted to use up. Who knows though?

My feeling is that maybe your right and that saw might have been a leftover and was actually a little older then you thought. The years just don't add up otherwise unless the other senerio was happening.

Your right about the "s" also, I don't know what I was thinking, I get confused.

Yeah that was yrs ago and I obviously wasn't very concerned with stats on saws back then LOL!!........I think my main concern was, at the time; women, motorcycles, firewood in the stove and ....oh yes women....LOL HMMMMM I still burn wood and like motorcycles but been down to one woman for quite a spell!!!
Got a lot more saws now though!!!

Also a question for you. Did Jonsereds build the M-36? Or is this just another version of the 25DA? It looks an awful lot like the Lil' Jon.. Different but a lot alike. Just wondering.

Oh...also been meaning to ask, did you get a look at the Husky case splitter I posted a pic of in the Husky thread (I think it was there)???

Robin, the 36 was built by Frontier, who built them under their own name as well as several others. I have a orange Jobu branded one (that my dad bought new) and my neighbor has a yellow Spartan version. While reading the Lil Jon timeline I wondered if the 36 was the replacement, and not certain of the year.

I think it probably was....OK.....I get it now...I've seen a bunch of those saws in various colors and names. Just this morning I saw one on ebay that was called a Lombard "Pony" was red, same top and handle etc.
Did Jonsered ever make any their own saws in this size range? Lil Jon, M36, 361 370 etc??? Or were they all subbed out? I never paid much attention to any of them before. So I am not much help with these little guys.

Kudos to the person who sent you the saw, Mark, and of course to you for obtaining a Jonsered Poulan.

I've never paid much attention to the smaller Jonsered saws, but a couple of months ago I discovered a M361 in a 'grab bag' box of mixed Jred parts saws & parts.

Exactly, the "S" fits just fine with the 1970s! :agree2:

The Wright 121 is said to be the same saw at Acres site.

Robin, I have been wondering about the timeline on this saw as to when it was sold by Jonsered. This saw from all accounts seems to be a 25DA and not a "S"25DA. From the Poulan documents that I have the 25DA was only made till 1974.

Are you certain on the 1977 timeline for yourself? Could the saw have been a couple of years older then you thought? If you are then I need to measure the bore on this one to be sure, but the muffler, stop switch and Tillotson carb all scream a 2.1CI 25 and not a 2.3CI Super 25.

I have a couple Poulan private label cross references and the Jonsered Lil Jon is not listed in either one of them. I did find in another Poulan branded products list that Poulan did make a few other saws for Jonsereds in the early 90's but they appear to be 36 and 40cc saws so probably not this style of saw.

Slightly away from topic.........but I have a Poulan 25DA timeline question for you Mark. The Craftsman 2.1A/Poulan 25DA you sent me recently has the later style stop switch and muffler. However, it's 2.1 instead of 2.3ci and has a Walbro carb instead of the Tillotson HU (of course the Wally could have been swapped in). What year would it have been made? I see that it has the same style of black and white decals as my 1.9/XX (which does have a Tilly HU) without the green that I see in decals of later red Craftsman/Poulan saws.

All were "rebranded" saws made in Canada (the "Frontier"/later EMAB saws) or the US (at least some of the Poulans), as far as I know.

mark,
you are truly one of teh guys on the forum who deserves the gift... that saw looks just like my 2.3/16...
kudos to the member who sent it to you, and thanks for
all the help you've passed on to me...
best of luck with it,
john

OK OK I admit I sent the saw to Mark... JUST KIDDING, I have no idea who did, but he sure is one who deserves it. I most just read posts on here and occasionally post, but Mark is one of many who go the extra mile helping others with advise, part, and just being an all round good guy. Thanks for the story and please forgive my inability to resist being a smart AZZ. JR

Interesting bringing up the 36 and 361. According to Acres the 36 was introduced about the same time as Poulan was moving the 25 series saws from 2.1ci saws to 2.3ci and from what I can tell about the time the Poulan/Jonsered deal was ending?

I also get confuesed by the manufacture of all those Frontier, Jonsered, Spartan, Partner, Skil and other saws.

I see them list Emab, Quadra Mfg, Frontier and others as the manufactures. It would be interesting to find the story on them as well.

If the 36 was the replacement I'm sorry to say that Jonsereds took a step backwords with them. I have had a M36 and a 361 here along with some Skil's and Partners and there just not in the same ball park. Very cheaply built saws.
