Hello,

I have been lurking aroud here for some time and really enjoy the knowledge and site in general. I will be picking up my new Husky 359 this week and plan on opening up the muffler and readjusting the carb after a few tanks of fuel. Question: will I have to remove the limiter caps to correctly readjust the carb?
If so what needs to be done? I saw the caps on my smaller Husky and assume I just remove the cammed portion of the cap and leave it round so it turns freely?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Some saws use the limiter caps to keep the screws from turning while it's running. It's best to take 'em off, adjust the carb, then put them back on in the middle of the adjustment range.
Some are easier to figure out how to remove than others. They all come off though, you just might need three hands.

On all the Husky saws that I've seen you csan just chop the ears off, as to the Stihls I wonder if what the sales/tech clowns at the superstores say is true, I've taken the limiter caps off a 460 and a 440 and no foul m self adjusting so I'm not entirely sure the cap has to be put back on aftere adjustment but ask around somemore.

I believe the friction-fit limiter caps were an early design that has since been abandoned.

I got my new 359 yesterday. I am chomping at the bit to put it in some wood this weekend. Nice improvement over what I was using for firewood in the past. I was wondering if there are any special measures I need to follow with the muffler on this saw at this time. The Husky dealer told me it has a cat. cnvtr. in it?
Is this any type of problem? I know 2-strokes and heat do not like each other. Can this muffler be modded? Should/can I put a none cat. cnvtr. stock muffler on the saw. Sorry for a bunch of questions one after another. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure why your dealer would tell you that about the muffler on your saw. It has a spark arrestor screen but, the muffler should be an empty can.

I have a feeling it was due to them trying to steer me into an Echo
510 they had on the shelf. However...I read the 357/359 owners manual that came with the saw and it does mention a cat. cnvtr. muffler on some models. I am just curious how to tell if I have one or not?

The caps on my little Stihl weed whacker are a friction sort of affair. I can turn the screws inside the caps, with a little force applied.

Edit:
Sorry. Wrong thread!

But, as long as I'm here, on catalytic convertors:
Jonsered's 2159 model has been available with the catalytic convertor for a while; my dealer says all the new ones are that way now. This is the same saw as the Husky 359.

What I make of this is that Elux is maybe looking at sales numbers, and hoping to keep overall emissions down "across the fleet". I bet they sell a lot more of this size saw than, say, the 395xp

I don't know this for sure, but I bet the Husqvarna "E-tech" (cat convertor) option is available on the 359, and may even be standard equipment now.

Good Point!

My saw is a new one and does have the e-tech on the side.
Does this mean it has the cnvtr?
And can anyone help with my above questions?
Thanks.

Problem Solved !

The 359 went back and I left with a 357xp.

More than I planned to spend but, I felt money well spent in the long run.

Thanks for the help guys!

Based on my crash course on this topic yesterday from both the dealer and N.E. Husky sales rep. I learned the following...
eylof was 100% correct when he mentioned the 359 as being a big seller for Husky. Huskey targeted this saw for the cat. cnvtr.
as a test unit for the 2006 emission standards. They figure by putting this on a popular model they can watch its performance for the next 1 1/2 years and see how it does and if any changes need to be made before it is a mandate on all 06 saws. My guess is if Stihl were to do the same they would use the ms290 due to it being a good seller for Stihl, not ness. a good saw, just a high volume platform for the cat. cnvtr.
Anyway...e-tech= emmisions technology.
I am thrilled with the 357xp after running it late yesterday.
I was unhappy with the 359 cat cnvtr situation, kind of like buying a first year model car...there are sure to be bugs popping up along the way. I don't like new model anything.
Well off to the back yard woods to make firewood!!!
enjoy the weekend.

Interesting. Thanks. My brother has a 359 but the muffler is just a can. Glad I got it for him a year ago. That muffler is gonna get a hole and some new wire mesh.

Kick a@% saw!
So happy I went for the 357xp.

This is my first "quality" saw. I do not make my living with saws...but really enjoy quality tools.

Thanks for all the help on this one!
