This is my buddy's machine. He already owes me $400 so I'm thinking of offering him a grand for it and eliminating the debt as well. I don't necessarily want the machine and I'm definitely not sure where I'm going to fit it in the garage but seems it would be a pretty good deal. Any thoughts?

I've got that same stumper. Paid $200 for it. It needs some electrical work. I'm having a buddy fix it for me after Christmas. I have a very reasonable sub to do my stumps but it's always nice to have one of your own so you don't have to count on anybody.

I'd say you would be getting a pretty good deal for a grand with only 600 hours on it.

I think so too. I have my 630B which I can get to 95% of my stumps and I also have a very good sub with a SC352 to handle the ones I can't reach. But this little machine has it's advantages. It's quick, easy to use and haul, I can get it in and out of landscaping beds easily...I'm just not sure I want it. The money isn't an issue I'm just trying to weigh whether it will eventually pay off or not.

I would imagine it will pay for itself but if you get large jobs you will earn your money. A 252 was too small for me I like 60 hp diesels.

I rent that style machine once a year to do hard to reach stumps. It pays on the rental end. If I found one of those in descent shape for that price, I think I'd do it. Nowhere near as fast as an RG50, but I guess it would be ok for the BS that the 50 would be overkill on.

That's the thing, it's really only good for dinky stumps but I occasionally get a job with a lot of dinky stumps and it would be good for that. Until now I've always just borrowed it from my buddy but if he sells it to someone else, I have to go to the rental yard like everyone else. What does it cost, a hundred bucks a day to rent? I'm really less interested in owning it than I am making sure it's available to me when I need it. lol

I think it will pay off in time like you said you can rent one but why rent when you can own and all it will cost you is maintenance. If you can get for under a grand I think that is a good deal. Why pay a sub when you can do it yourself and pay it off faster.

I say get it, and if you can work out a deal on the debt even better. I have a Husky small grinder that I only got because I got a very good deal on it. Works very well for me. With good teeth and an operator who has some finnesse it does a real nice job. If you can get it for close to a grand it sure won't take long to pay for itself.

We've done some pretty good sized stumps with them before. Where they really shine is accessing hard to get to stumps. We had to rent one last year to get into a back yard where they were building a pool, pool house and pump house. They were plumbing the pump for the new pool and there were PVC pipes exposed and sticking up in the only avenue of access. We made a ramp and got over it and into the yard no problem. Could have done it with a 252 (which is definitely nicer) but that stumper only rented for $115. It was a newer Bandit model where the grinder articulated when you pulled a pin. The wheels stayed stationary as you moved the grinder back and forth. Very nice little grinder. We did 22 stumps with it that day... Well my groundie did. I would rather be hung by my toenails than grind stumps... :)

chris,

I'd be buying it if it were near me. I'd love to have a more portable machine than my 252 for hard-to-reach stumps. It's either something like that or an alpine magnum or an attachment for the mini skid but those things don't come cheap either.

As far as stumps go if I can't get this in I rent a smaller one.

I try to normally run around with an RG50 - RG100, and those things kick MAJOR A$$. However they can't go down stairs or through those stupid narrow gates that people have for some god forsaken reason. That's when the little machine shines. Last winter I took it down 50? stairs to reach 2 stumps, and then drove it out over the ice. This winter I have a job similar to that lined up. RG50 wouldn't be able to get down the stairs, let alone get out over the ice.

From the looks of it, I guess I decided to pull the trigger. I'm giving him the grand he asked for and eliminating the $400 he owes me. So I'm paying $1400 total for the unit plus the aluminum ramps in the pics. I could have jewed him down 'cause I know he's hard up for loot but he's a good friend and I hate doing that #### to guys that would bend over backwards to help me out of a pinch. Looks like I got 2 stumpers now. :dizzy: I ####in' HATE stumping. lol

Too funny, I was going to say do it if he would include the ramps. :biggrinbounce2: Those are worth a $100 at least.
I haven't seen a grinder like that for less than $2000 around here.

lol. He said they cost $200 new. I gotta hunt around for a good aluminum welder to stiffen them up. They're good for 750 lbs. each but I'd like to use them for my mini skid as well so I'm trying to think of a way to strengthen them. We'll see how that pans out.

I can tell you how three scraped out lol
