those chunks can weigh hundreds of pounds and lifting them 4ft or 5ft up onto the truck bed is PITA. Do you guys have any tricks to make loading logs high dump truck bed any easier (besides a mini loader)?

I use the same principles the egyptians built the pyramids with.

or let hydraulics do it.

When shopping for employees at the supermarket look for the guys that work the sugar section. These guys move around bags of sugar that contain 12 five lb. bags and weigh 60 lbs!

:ices_rofl:

The people in the pet food aisle move those heavy bags of dog food around also, some of those weigh over 50 + lbs. Get a few together and you really do some lifting.

The guys who empty trash cans at burger joints can lift heavy and high.

And they could bring their own lunch also, there is always something good in a trash can at a burger joint. :jawdrop: that is a big cost savings also.

How about save yourself the pain of findimg more workers and get a knuckleboom!

Rent a loader.

Buy a lift gate, retrofit your truck.

Buy a grapple truck.

If there is wood that must be handled without machinery, get a dumpster dropped at the job site. Logs can be wheeled into it with minimal ramping and a hand cart.

Make sure the crew knows how to properly lift as a team. This requires training on regular basis.

Rip the pieces down to sizes that 1 person can safely carry.

Keep this in mind: one back injury can cost more than than a used skidloader in good condition, perhaps even more than a used grapple truck.

That costs money alan, the inovator wants ideas that cost $8hr max

Get yourself some ramps, leave a space between them and use a parabuckle anchored in the front of the dump bed, add a few puleys for extra MA and it should do the trick as long as the pieces being loaded are cut so the will roll easy, a crotch piece is a pain not matter how you do it.

Make some kind of homemade boom with a hand winch.

A clam truck is a big help, oh I forgot we can't go over our 8/hr investment, I guess that is fair exchange for hernias and back trouble.

I thought you were such a smart businessman??I thought you would have had this part figured out by now.

Hey not me. When my dad had the business we had the best equipment to do the work so it was easier for us and for the workers plus it took less time.

Cut the logs into 18 foot lengths, buy a log splitter (or knowing you, just a splitting maul), and turn it into firewood. (Oh, this wouldn't work, you'd overwork your craftsmans doing all that extra cutting.)

log loading

Try 2by12's ten feet long with ramparts to roll or slide the logs onto the truck bed. Works for me
