log splitter question.

hey guys im in the process of building my splitter. i am using a 6.5 brigs horazontal shaft. my quesion is... can i have the pumps inlet 4-5 inches higher then the tank outlet to the pump? i would think this wouldnt be an issure but better safe asking then sorry. having the pump 4-5" higer then the oulet of my tank is as log as i can get it. any info helps.. thanks
 
I was told that as long as the oil level in the tank was higher than the pump that I would be okay.

it's always a good practice to get it equal to or below oil level. if the oil in the tank will be equal to it, you should be OK.

however, if you are above the minimum height, be sure to prime your pump before the initial startup. a dry pump can ruin itself real fast.
