I personally like a few different brands one is Viberg from Canada, the others are Hoffman and Wesco's.I have a pair of 12" tall, block heel, steel toes from Hoffman, but I also have and wear most of the time is a pair of Vibergs also 12" tall block heel, steel toe w/toe plate, and of course steel caulks and tricounis if thats all your gonna be doing is felling, limbing, bucking I would highly recomenned getting a pair of boots with steel caulks they make walking in the woods when wet out alot nicer due to the extra grip.

My last pair of boots I had were the lacrosse loggers boot. They held up quite nicely and were very comfortable. Maybe not a true loggers boot but nice. Most of the better loggers boots will have the sole nailed all the way around the outside of the boot, on the bottom like Vibergs or Wesco. The Logger boot from Bailey's Seems to be a very good option. Just got a pair of there Safety pak boots with calks and they are built great. Course I have to send them back because I got them a little to small. Oh well, worth the wait.

Good luck

I tried a few pairs, danners, wescos, baileys, and whites.

I stick with the Whites exculsively now. Best ???? boots money can buy if ya ask me.

Viberg is a great boot if you stick with the "all leather". If you go the the half and half, they are very hard to fit.
The absolute best boot I have ever worn, was the Nokia half and half. I still have one pair of caulks that I use when I need them. My supplier quit importing them, so I had to quit selling them. Apparently there is a company in Eastern Canada, and one in the US, that are bringing them in again, but without caulks, and at a much higher price.

For climbing I use my Meindl or Lowa mountaineering boots.

Great grip and great insulation!

For ground work my Red Wing offshore boots with steel toes do a great job.

All full grain leather.
Maintenance: lots of crankshaft grease....

The Red Wings are great for "logging work" in the local bars too.
My Trans Canada loggers shirt and the Red Wings attract a certain kind of females ha..

i wear Stihl Pro Marks, VERY comfortable!!! i'm getting ready to buy a pair of calked boots as well, its like Rob said about the extra traction!!!

I have been very happy with my logger boots from Redwing. I believe I have the model #4418 I checked out the 2292 over the summer, and while they were VERY comfortable, they were a bit too tall for me.

Been wearing White's Smokejumpers since 1989 and have been very happy with them. Tried some Wesco lace to toe boots in 98 due to limited funds boy was that a waste of $260. These boots blew out the side after only 2 monthes of use went back to Whites after that. Whats nice about Whites is the arch support they keep your foot from sliding forward and smashing your toes into the front of the boot when working on steep ground. They are also very comfortable when hiking. I fight forest fires in the summer and do alot of hiking and they are like wearing tennis shoes even after walking for 8 miles to a fire. Another boot that is made by White and constructed on the same pattern of the smokejumper is the hawthorne it is cheaper in cost but has the same arch support sole. good luck

Yup, been wearing the same boots, got a pair of wescos for dress, but for work i gotta have the whites,

Your right about the feeling to tennis shoes, but i never walked 8 miles, i think 5 was the most we walked...

I found that the best footwear for the bush are cowboy boots.
This way, you can be in style at all times, and they come in handy for kicking the eyes out of snakes.
Actually, the half rubber, half leather Nokias, as Dennis mentioned are the best I have worn. I used them on the West Coast in the early 80's. The traditional loggers boot have stacked leather heels and are taller, so you feel like a Viking wearing them, even if your a short ass like me. The taller heals are harder on the ankles, especially on steep slopes.
Nowadays, I just use a construction type boot called HWC ( Hard Working Canadian), I'm a very hard worker :')

Hey Gypo does the wife know you had them on the table?, also would be an idea to make sure no one sees you taking the photograph....:D

Hi Jock, I have only found one woman who will put up with me, and she is 5000 Km. away.
Kevin is right about the two left boots. A woodlot owner noticed I just had one boot on while falling timber and pointed out that I had lost one. I just replied, " No Sir, I didnt loose a boot, I found one."

I too would like to try Wescos or Whites based on all the great feedback they get, but I`m leary of getting a good fit on a mailorder boot that costs a small fortune and has a loooong lead time. In the meantime I guess I`ll just have to make do with my old standby Redwings. Here is a pic of a pair from another post.

Russ,

If your that worried you can call them and they will mail you a custom fit sheet to make sure that they fit you comfortablely,I usually have them custom make the boots it does'nt really cost that much more..Let me know if your interested I maybe able to scan you the sheet I think I still have one here..

Later Rob..
