I've got some friends in Colorado, but I haven't talked to them since last fall.
At that time I got the impression that there were lots of trees to cut, but nothing to do with them once they're down. One friend said he had sold some saw logs to a pellet mill, so I figure It must be getting pretty tough. I'd never heard of him selling anything to a pellet mill before.

Where is GMUG? Grand Mesa/Uncampadgre?

I have some friends who where working in CO but i have not talked to them in a while. They where doing some fuel reduction and residential removals.
P&J Got a really big federal contract near Colorado Springs but I wouldn't recommend anyone work for them unless I really did not like them!

The big thing in CO is beetle killed pine.

You'll find outfits that work solely on the beetle killed pine.

Might look around in Grand, Jackson, Summit, and Eagle counties.

One outfit I know of did small lots and non-commercial forests. Mostly clearcuts. I haven't heard from them in awhile. Lots of stuff shut down.

Like Andy said, pellet mills - if anything is moving.

GMUG stands for : Grand mesa/Uncompahgre
The pellet mills are both up in northern Colorado,3-4 hours from me.I was told they are paying around 19$ per ton, delivered. And thats for dead wood, so you cant get any weight on a load. There are still small mills scattered around the state. By small, I mean they take from 1 to 15 loads per day. The only big mill left(50-80 loads per day)is in Montrose. All of my wood goes into my small mill,or into some of the other small mills. We dont have the beetle problem where I am yet,nor do we have the lodgepole pine. We have Ponderosa,Engalmen Spruce,Doug Fir,Aspen, And of course Balsam. I log more Aspen and Spruce than anything.

I went to school at Uncompaghre Elementry during my 5th grade year. They had three class rooms and a bell with a rope to pull to ring it. And the best lunch room cook I ever had.
