Being from Pa as is Dan, one of the first things taught in hunter safety courses is to never, NEVER point a rifle at a person or use it as binoculars. I don't care whether you think or know the gun is unloaded. Some things you just don't do. :angry2:

It's funny how many "unloaded" guns shoot people. Can't believe no one else here is hammering you for this. Go to hunting pa and submit your post and see what kind of response you get.

I hope it's just the scope with no rifle attached.

Good point. Should have considered that. My rifle scopes are attached to my guns, so I assumed his are too. Harder to look through when they are off. I will apologize if I am incorrect.

I did not take any Pa hunting safety classes. I figures" Hey, I live in Pa, What the heck would I be doing out in the woods when other people have guns?"
A few years ago a few people actually started shooting at each other out there.
I haven't fired a gun in years, I don't care if I ever do again. I took the big Bushnell off one of the rifles and stuck it on a board. I lent it to a friend cause across the stream from him are a couple of hot lesbians, I haven't seen my scope since then.

Sounds like 'the dan' has stepped on another hornet's nest.

What me worry?
So here I am in the presence of all your greatness AND that's all you have to say... I hope I never dissapointed you like that. If I did, I am sorry.
Flaming arrows. That how The Dan does Hornets, he can't resist.

I think "The Dan" is correct in that he spotted a big boo-boo! Locust:chainsaw:

Why wouldn't you want to save it. That notch isn't big enough to worry about at this time. Over time as it becomes a cavity (if it does) then removal may be an option. At this time however, (unless I'm not interpreting the picture correctly), that tree still has a low probability of failure.

The point of your speech is TIMES CHANGE? Yeah, still up ... for now.probably stay up for a good long time, get covered in ivy, forgotten on the back burner... Oh there is a lot of wind sweeping down here.
It not really about how safe it is anyway...

No way! THAT SOUNDS DANGEROUS. you should be careful and safe. Its cool though.

Of course it's dangerous! That's what makes it so fun.

The lighter and can of starting fluid are actually pretty easy to control. The heat released by the ether is not very great, but sufficient to start most vehicles. My fear is that I'll start an unwanted fire.

Sadly, no one sells starting fluid without adding "lubricants" to the ether, so I don't get to do that anymore. The lubricants in the starting fluid continue to burn after they splatter onto something, so you are almost guaranteed to have a fire.

Sorry to get this thread back on track...
BUT... the tree needs a cable anyway from the look of it.. Locust doesn;t rot easily. That wound doesn't look too deep, as locust has thick bark. It might close with a year ot two of new growth. Did you take a look close up? I'd say the tree should be good indefinitely if cabled properly.

Keep having fun!
