Some days, the low bid just doesn't work out. Last Friday, I heard a saw working in the neighborhood, so I figured I go look. We had a windstorm last November which snapped off / or uprooted hundreds of trees in the area. The blue tarp on the roof is from the windstorm in November.

The porch damage ... that's new ... and let's just say I haven't seen the "arborist" back since last Friday. He was working alone with no more than a saw and a compact pickup truck, and it looks like what's left of the ladder he had tied to the tree got whacked in addition to the porch. He was alright, but it looks like he's leaving the rest of his gear for the next tree company.

(Not my house, just in the neighborhood)

Visiting my grandsons' home the other day, I saw his neighbor with a Mexican looking man with a chainsaw. A few days later I was talking with the neighbor, and told him what I saw. He explained he had a huge tree in his back yard that was dead, and needed removing before it fell on his house. He doesn't have much spare money, and this guy was needing work, and had a chainsaw. He tried sawing the tree, but his saw was dull. So this neighbor, after much persuading, took the man and his saw to town, and the neighbor paid to have the chain sharpened.
Back home the guy tried sawing the tree again, and the chain flew off the bar. He shut down the saw and walked over to the neighbor, and put his hand out as though to shake hands, and the neighbor asked: ' Your not quitting are you ' ? , to which the Mexican speaking man replied: " We Need to Pray. "
I don't think this tree is going to fall right.......
Neighbor: Well; put the chain back on, and keep trying. Low Budget Faller: You have any tools ?..... After finding the right size tool, the chain was finally on, they suddenly heard a loud 'SNAP', and looked towards the tree. Slowly it began leaning more and more, and fell safely to the ground. Both men were relieved.

First of all: If you hear a chainsaw running just go the other way. Put as much distance between it and you. I can go into detail as to why if you want but I think you understand.

Secondly: I recently pulled all my ladders out of the shed, cut them up and got 24 bucks down at the scrap yard for them. I don't even know how I got them! I never bought a ladder in my life except for the two little step ladders I use around my house for painting.

I have a neighbor like that. Stuff just shows up in his garage, that he never bought. He has a lot of friends, I guess, because I've seen half the Sheriff's Department over there helping him empty his garage back out. ;)

I'm surprised you haven't seen more of this mate. I'm in CDA and the amount of "tree companies" that have showed up since the storm has been INSANE!

Oh, I have. Like the late teens kid I saw splitting rounds with a 461 or 661 with zero PPE aside from long, scraggly hair covering his ears, and boring in with the top side of the bar tip first.

funny when I always hear people say they never use ladders. different environments require different tools.
where I'm at, I use a ladder everyday.
step ladder on trim jobs, extension to get up palm trees

I use a step ladder for the bushes, sure, but I didn't want to admit it. I can not remember the last time I used a ladder to get into a tree.

If I had to work on palms ( I'm glad I don't), I would probably use a ladder but I still don't like it. I would probably invest in one of those contraptions they have to ascending palms or just use my spikes. I don't know but they say its Ok to spike palms. I don't know, what I do know is that I am really glad there ain't no palms around here.

And of course they need a slogan.

"We don't do the best work but we are the cheapest"

What a sketchy operation.
Looks like a Ponderosa Pine?

Yup, Ponderosa. It's about all that grows at these lower elevations here on the east side.

Ladder was still there as of two days ago.

What gets me is the consumers that are stupid enough to hire those assholes. I see it around here almost everyday. Anybody that uses that bad of judgement when hiring a contractor deserves everything they have coming...and then some.
