Have been in this business for over 10 years and just got diagnosed with late stage lyme disease today. Just curious if anyone who has had to deal with this issue can offer any advice or just give me a heads up as too what to expect. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Sorry to hear that. I dont have any first hand knowledge of it myself, but some experts on the subject should be along shortly. Welcome to AS.

Fella I worked with has it. Had to take STRONG antibiotics. They made him feel worse than the disease. But the disease makes him lethargic, joints ache. I do believe in the later stages, you take the antibiotic to get rid of it ,but the damage to your joints and other areas of your body are already done. I worked in a slaughterhouse back in the late '80's early '90's processing deer. Fortunate to not have contracted it. My boss and his brother-in-law both got it. BIL got Bell's Palsy, which is a side effect from Lymes. Right side of his face sagged with little muscle control. Eventually goes away. Another guy who processed deer in my area also got it. Take the antibiotics to get it out of your system, even if you feel like crap. Lyme's disease is very serious if left untreated. Not trying to scare ya, but glad you got it caught and can get rid of it.

Lyme

Hi Stunper

I was diagnosed with Lyme in the late stages about 12 yrs. ago. It is hard to treat if not caught in the first stage, it is a very tricky Spirakete. I was on antibotics off and on for three years. It is very deibilating but do not give up. I would be more than glad to talk with you about what to expect and things that did and did not help. One thing for sure is you need a good infectious disease doctor that is fimiluar with Lyme. There has been a lot of research on Lyme since I contracted it. The University of Stoneybrook NY. And Mayo Clninic have done extensive research in the field and have web sites with information on the findings. My Ph.# is 812-332-8828, more than glad to help if I can.
May God bless you and your doctors with your treatment.

My sister in law had it and was in bad shape. She was treated with antibiotics for a while and finally gave up and did some kind of holistic treatment. Seems like it was sea salt and vitamins. Cured her. There's plenty of info on the net. I tend to trust the doctors but in her case I think she saved her own life. If you get desperate stick my name away somewhere and I'll have her contact you. Serious stuff and nothing to fool with. I've heard some cases of Lou Gerig's disease could be misdiagnosed Lyme.

Second time i got lyme it triggered hairy-cell leukemia, which made me function like i was half-drunk for years. then it was discovered and treated w chemo; 10 years later the blood is fairly okay, but imo the lyme was a factor in loss of strength and stamina (aging was another...)

be aggressive with it, for it is aggressive to you! :msp_angry:

I had it two summers in a row. Luckily I knew a pharm rep who gave me some comps of the top of the line antibiotic pills on the cuff. Stuff was Four hundred a bottle because they were paired with some chemical that aided in your body absorbing them.

Long story short, find a a good pharm rep.

I have chronic Lymes, which the CDC claims don't exist.

I was flat broke when I contracted it and all I was able to afford was the free clinic, and I guess I got my money's worth. They gave me Keflex, which does absolutly nothing for Lymes. When I didnt get any better after 6 months I was able to get a supply of Mexican Amoxicillinia, which got me in better shape but still not up to snuff.

I finally went to a real Doctor that knew something about Lymes who put me on Doxycycline but by that time all them lil worms had set up housekeeping in my blood pretty good and was just a swimming and frolicking. They dont seem to be planning to go anywhere any time soon.

I strongly suggest that you and anyone that has a chance of getting a tick bite watch this film:
