Just about given this saw up as a lost cause. Idles wont run. Tried almost everything i can think of. Started with carb kit then new plug, pulled exhaust, checked piston and cylinder, cleaned muffler, checked key way. Cranks and runs but when you try and go to full throttle it just does not have any power and almost seems to run like ignition problem. Fuel seems to want to come out of carb and exhaust like it is not getting burned and makes a hell of a mess. Must have compression kicks like a mule when you try to crank it. Any ideas appreciated.

key way OK. Could be fuel mixture. I am going to try a leaner mixture with premium fuel next. Any idea at what she should run at? 40:1 maybe

I used 40:1 in mine. works fine. you wouldnt happen to be running 16:1 in yours would you? possibly an incorrect adjustment on the carb too.

is the carburator metering lever adjusted right, and is the flywheel to armature gap correct. They usually spec 0.007" to 0.010" for the gap, about 2-3 pieces of paper is close. Loosen the armature and let the flywheel magnet pull it to it with the paper in between them. Then tighten it back down, spin flywheel to make sure it isn't too close, dont want it to make contact.

And are you sure that the exhaust is not clogged? Try running it with the muffler off to see if that perks it up.
John.......

You need to keep the muffler on for the correct back pressure to run properly. Sounds like something in the carb not mixing or working properly. Could also be a combo between the timing and carb issue. Is the plug the correct one (correct heat range)????

I didn't suggest long term use with the muffler off. Just a test. His saw sounds exactly like a number of saws I've seen with clogged muffler screens. Two strokes do not need back pressure to run properly as long as the jetting is OK.

Sounds like the carb needle is leaking, flooding the saw, and also giving you
the extra compression feel. You will find this little saw a nightmare to work
on as you have to totally disassemble the saw to work on the carb or
anything else. The fuel/oil tanks are fitted into pockets/ports, and getting
the saw not to leak would take a miracle, if you were to put it back together.

Eager Beavers, mac 115, mac 120 all terrible design. PITA to work on! Here is what it is good for- Gave a nice looking one to my 5 year old grandson with no chain or spark plug. He has a ball with it.

I have one, the only thing I really like is the power it has. buried a 12" bar in hardwood and it didnt slow down at all.

Thanks guys thats the plug i have. I hate this saw it is terrible to work on. I just keep remembering the good old days when this sucker worked and cut like a champ.

I agree that it could be a clogged muffler screen but 2 strokes DO need back pressure to run correctly and properly. That's why we run tune pipes on all our 2 stroke racing motors. If that statement was true - "Two strokes do not need back pressure to run properly as long as the jetting is OK" then all the 2 stroke motorcycles, hot saws, go-karts or any other 2 stroke in the world wouldn't have pipes on them.

Keep mufflers on

I ran this saw for 2 minutes before I saw the muffler on the ground. It won't let me attach jpg. See previous thread: Is it worth fixing? Shows ruined piston.

If its got a ruined piston, just junk it. that model mac isnt worth too much I dont think. though, I know a guy who might want it, other than myself.
