Just had an older man bring me a real nice Mac 310 saw with auto sharp, needed a plug & an air filter. Cleaned it up & it runs fine. This model has the auto sharp which I think is a waste of time but he swears that it actually works. Anybody out there know where I can get a sharpening stone or stones for this?---Thanks, Bill Irvine

Bill: The Power_Sharp system was marketed by Omark (Oregon) in the 70's. It sounded good but didn't work in the real world. The so-called Barracuda chain was available in .325 pitch and 3/8 pitch. The .325 was discontinued around 1980, and the 3/8 pitch was also discontinued shortly thereafter. No one was able to get the system to sharpen a dulled chain to the original factory sharpness. I have played around with barracuda chain and have been able to sharpen it with a jury-rigged grinding set-up. It cuts soft wood like nothing else when new or properly re-sharpened. I suggest that you remove the mechanism (for safety's sake) and use standard chain. It isn't worth trying to sharpen with the Power-Sharp system.

I don't think you can get them anymore from Sears, Parts Direct, but Sears had them on their electric saws way back when. I converted a few of their electric saws to standard chain. They were an option on the Mac140 also. The Mac140 I sent you had the auto sharpener removed. I have one loop of the Barracuda chain left but I'm not willing to part with it, I have an old guy that still uses it on his firewood saw he brings in once a year for a tune up. This will be the last time I fix it, he needs a new saw but wants to run this one till it dies. I want him to get the 3hp Makita electric to replace his old Sears electric. I don't think the saw goes much further than his back patio or the end of his 25' extention cord.
