I could not tell from the pic, not that my assessment skills are great anyway, but is/was there anything that could have told you or the homeowner that this tree was in danger of failing? I am assuming that the three trees growing so close together and not having their wood joined well at the base is a significant weak point. Any thoughts?

Looks like that top is holding up alot of weight.

We had given an estimate for removal of these tree about a year or so ago. We discussed the weak attachment points at that time. Oh well !!!!!
