I'm supposed to go take down a couple of dead pine trees next week, but I am told that I need to leave them about 8 - 10' tall so that vines can grow on them and block out the cars. The trees are spaced roughly 10 - 15 feet apart. I'm wondering what I could run between the 2 that would help the vines spread, that would be cheap, strong enough to support the vines in the beginning, and also relatively inconspicuous.

I figure my choices are between old throw line, old climbing line, some whipping twine (I have PLENTY of it) some green webbing, and maybe some thin wire.

Do you find its harder to TD them to 10 feet or so rather than notch the poles right from the ground? I do. I find it difficult to explain that to people sometimes.
I would use some kind of organic twine although I guess it doesn't really matter in this case. I would try to thread the string under some ivy then lift it up to tie it to the trunks. Sounds easy enough to help get the ivy started. next year it will take off with the nutrients in the ground and the sun in the sky. Should work perfect but I have seen where it can casue a problem but if there isn't anything else around and you can mow the ivy back you should be good to go.

String and wire is the real cheap way and it can look ugly. Maybe you can rip a 2x4 a few times to get strips and nail them to the poles. I made something like this for the exact same thing. Wanted cheap too.
A couple of 16 foot pressure treated boards isn't to much. Ripping them might be but it looks good in the end. I would say I got 5 or 6 strips out of one 2x4

Its funny when your giving a price on a flopper and they are like "well, how much would it be if you just take the top half of the tree out."

leaving the trees half up, AND building a jury rigged lattice is gonna make you look pretty half as$ bro, leave the BS to someone else to rig.
I'm guessing they don't want to buy real Latticing.
People WILL know YOU did it.............

Lattice is fairly easy to make out of some 2x4's, as has been mentioned. That is if you have a table saw to rip them with. I have done it and painted it myself and it looks pretty good.

The trees are about 50' tall, and all I need to leave behind is a way for the vines to grow, in order to block the view of the road from the house.

Is that really going to last long enough to make it worth the effort? I'm pretty sure if I tried it down here the pines would rot out in a couple of years (more or less, depending on how much sap was in the heart wood) and collapse under the weight of the vines. If you use cording for the lattice, how long would that last? If you use wire, and the pines rot and collapse, heaven help the poor guy who hits that pile with a brush hog, lawn mower, chain saw, or weed eater.
