anyone that happened to read where i was going to try,, and convert lg chain,, to a more narrow kerf. dont do it . the rakers are rite and its sharp but it dont cut worth a fart. nothin ventured ,nothin gained... it was my oldest lg chain ,but still cut good ,until my little modification.:(

I assume you narrowed the width of the cutter. What you have now is maybe like running narrow kerf chain on a standard bar. The kerf being cut is probably too close to the width of the bar and it is possibly binding slightly.:confused:

i took an equeal amt off the outside of the cutters on both sides. that would be the only way ,i can see to narrow the kerf. your point about taking the chrom ,has merit. in any case the old saw is fine . never be an 036 or close to a pp372.
but i think its doing about what it was made to do. thats be dependable an keep on cuttin. my idea wernt so good.
but take the good w the bad. now im gone fellas ,been fixin my roof and that black devil[roof] tried to get me up there.
gotta quit this crap.:)

Narrowing Kerf

Tony;
When you narrow the cutters you have to be very careful to maintain the tooth's cutting edge relief angles both horizontally and vertically or it will bind.
Art Martin covers it in his thread on building race chains. It sure is faster if you get it right. If you take off too much you will start to break or bend teeth. Rivet heads will rub also unless you take them down too. (Product Liability):Check with your attorney before you get into the business. LOL!

Picture of Narrowed teeth

This narrowing of the teeth results in a much narrower kerf but any running off to either side will bind as the kerf is very little wider than the bar itself. I also broke off a tooth so I guess I went too far in the narrowing process.

It's fixin' to rain?  Well then it's a good thang y'all fixed that roof, ain't it?

Actually, when I saw your earlier post earlier, I recalled a scene where Ma Kettle was after Pa Kettle to fix the roof and he said he didn't need to, it weren't rainin.
