I have plans of sending the dogs to my chromer.
We use satin-chrome, on wear surfaces, on components at work... I am going to talk to the vendor and have them slip the dogs in to the next batch.


I am currently acquiring a small pile of bolt-on mods for my 461.

Any news on this? Would love to see how the chromed set turned out! :msp_ohmy:

I have one 460 outer sitting here.

I just sent Mike what I thought was my last 460 set, but there was another one sitting there -- no inner though.

If you don't have a 361 to check it on, just send it along with an order if you like. At least then it can be checked to match up a 660 or 460 inner spike. If the catchers remain in the same location that would be sweet.

It could be sent with a 200T spike or I can wait for the whole batch. 460 is the what I really need now. The 660 and 361 can wait for there turn. The first 460 set will be going on a near brand new ground up 460 BB with goodies

361 uses the same inner and outer dawgs as 440/660/362/441 etc..

only the 46/460 and 461 are the odd ball with the different outers.

Just got asked to come in on a big high school project. . . This will be welcome work for me and my family.

I'll have enough from my first paycheck to get a rather large batch cut out in a couple weeks.

Only ones I have left right now are the fatties Mike.

Tramp said he didn't mind the extra thickness on them? It's up to you though, I will be having a large amount cut in a couple weeks.

Thanks for posting this info! I'm pretty sure I can locally source the powerheads from your list to template dogs on. It's a lot easier than the long distance thing.

Over the computer isn't too bad, but still a lot of back and forth.

Yeah, got the 372-390 templated, and the 394-395, & 562. And whatever other saws those will fit. Just need to wait for some cash in the next couple weeks to get a large batch cut out.

I also templated the Dolly 7900 and will have my 346 templated eventually.

Hey Metal.. Been scanning the thread. In looking to get a set on my 440. It's a saw I run all day for multiple purposes. I've never seen what I'm about to ask but what about some 360 - 362 dogs w/catcher on the 440, I like to get as much as I can out of my bar & like how the bottom of the 36x's are rounded to glide unless you want it to grab. I have the larger clutch cover, would those bolt right up? If they wouldn't, I'd like to get as close to OEM as possible. I just don't want anything humongous.

Any input from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Jimmy, just bolt the 362 dogs to your 440.

No need to go aftermarket for what you're looking for.

As far as I know, the whole series should work to swap spikes. Bring your saw with you when you go to the dealer, and you can check them with saw in hand. That will remove a lot of guesswork from the equation.

I've kinda scanned through all 28 pages of this thread & haven't really dug deep into it but, what is the benefit of the ones you are fab'n up.. Are they just a 4 point @ OEM size or are they bigger like the ones I've seen kicking around Bailey's, Amazon & the Bay? The ones in the OP don't seem all that huge. Nice job BTW.

As you know, I'm really just looking for something well rounded (not literally, even though the 36x's are) to cover all Dept's. Im on the east coast, but the single I have on there now is useless for stumps. Do you think a 36x set on a 440 would also be useless in that scenario? I don't have a problem grabbing a 440 set from you if they are available & arent too big.

Well, to keep your dog question simple and to the point. The dogs are made of an alloy, so they won't bend like the factory ones.

The aggressive profile is also perfect for pivoting for a face cut of dogging for a buck. They also excel in allowing you to 'stab' your saw into a log or stump to hold it there for you. Really things done by professional timberfallers, but are sorely missed when they can't be done.

There are other advantages too, and probably some disadvantages.

They're sharp, and you have to take care not to open yourself up on them.
