Hello Folks. New to the gang.

Thank you for the help up front.

I just bought the Makita(dolmar) chainsaw and after reading the factory info sticker, it states that the saw was manufactured April of 06. So, it's been sitting for quite sometime, unless it was rebuilt.

If indeed it is a new saw and has been sitting for over two years, what procedures should be followed?

Other than a small amount of rust on the chain sprocket, it looks like it was built yesterday.

If it was rebuilt, would they put on a new sticker stating so?

I want to start using it real bad.

Check the chain and bar for free movement. Gas and oil it up, let er rip. Wont know if there is a problem until you try to use it. But I also am not familiar with this saw so wait for someone more qualified to answer. YOu could try contacting dealer/mfg.

I tried calling Makita after work on Friday, but was too late. I thought I'd try looking for a forum to ask these questions and found this cool joint.

I was just worried if some of the lubrication went south. Especially on the piston ring(s) if it was lubed from the factory.

I'm not very familiar with a two stroke's components. Just guessing here.

Thanks hometown.

Hey CHEVY..I wish I could help you out with your question..but I thought I'd tell ya howdy and welcome to the site..this place is a plethora of good info..there are some real pros around here that know their s:censored: t iside and out..good luck..

Thank you WM.

Forums can be a huge help. I use a Chevy forum and a Toyota forum for my trucks. Can't tell you how many times those two forums have saved me.

I'm going to wait till Monday and talk to the factory/tech. I'll post up results.

Late.

Spoke to Makita and they said no problem. Fire it up. If any, Send it back.

I also got the chance to speak to an old timer who has 2cycle gas/oil in his blood, and he said no problem too.

Fire in the hole!!!

It fired right up and wanted to rumble!

I'm impressed with these little mighty mouses! I don't know much about this engine, but the rumble of the 2cycle felt awesome at idle and wot. And much crazier than the homelite I got at HD. It sounded sweet too.

I'll post if anything happens.

Later days!

Good to hear CHEVY..I've heard good things about them "kitas"...I love my Stihls..wait till ya get your hands on a nice Stihl or Husky..and you'll know why the pro's love em..good luck though..once you get some chips flyin..you'll truly know know what a "woody" is..LOL

Woooooo! I hear ya bro. But I read something that stopped me cold. The fella wrote, "If you're messing with a saw over 20" with a crazy two stroke, you're asking for trouble unless you're a pro..." And bro, I aint no pro! But I sure am po!

Unfortunately, no bar oil is coming out. Pump must be out. So it's going back to the dealer.

Saw you later WM.

I guess the soap opera ends right here.

I took the saw to makita yesterday and they called back today saying the screw (3 different speeds adjusted outside the saw) had to be adjusted internally.

I have a lot of respect for two stroke engines. Even after sitting for nearly 3 years, this thing cranked up no problem. I'm not even sure if my Chevy's L6 would crank over with a fresh battery after sitting for two years...Cool beans.

Class dismissed on this subject.
